Renogy 200W 12V Flexible Solar Panel: bendable, lightweight and specs

A lightweight, semi-flexible 200-watt 12-volt monocrystalline panel with half-cut PERC cells, built for RVs, boats and curved surfaces. What the specs mean.

The Renogy 200W 12V flexible solar panel is a thin, lightweight monocrystalline module that can bend to fit curved surfaces. Renogy positions it for transportation uses such as RVs, boats and vans, where a heavy rigid panel with a thick aluminium frame can be hard to mount.

Why a flexible panel

A rigid panel is usually stiffer and sturdier. A semi-flexible one trades some of that for low weight and a profile of about 0.1 inch, so it can sit close to a roof or hull. Renogy says the panel bends within 240 degrees and weighs about half as much as a rigid panel of the same wattage. The all-black finish is described as glare-free.

Flexible panels are typically fixed with adhesive or fasteners rather than frames and brackets, so the surface and fixing method matter. Follow the manual, and consider airflow behind the panel, since heat reduces output.

What 200 W and 12 V mean

The 200 W figure is the output under standard test conditions, and real output varies with sun, angle and temperature. The 12 V class means the panel is made for 12 V battery systems, usually through a charge controller. Renogy says it can provide an average of about 1000 watt-hours per day, calculated on five hours of sunlight. That is a simple estimate: 200 W times 5 hours. Actual results depend on location and season.

Half-cut PERC cells

The panel uses monocrystalline PERC (passivated emitter and rear cell) cells that are cut in half. PERC adds a layer to the back of the cell that helps it capture more light. Half-cut cells carry less current each, which generally reduces resistive losses and can help performance when part of the panel is shaded. Renogy says the combination improves light capture and output efficiency.

Weather protection and loads

The junction box and solar connectors are rated IP67 for waterproofing. The panel is listed as withstanding up to 5400 Pa of snow load and 2400 Pa of wind load. Those are standard mechanical test figures, and they apply to the panel as installed to the manufacturer's instructions.

Cables and mounting

Pre-drilled mounting holes are included, along with 12 AWG solar connector cables 27.6 inches long. Check that length against your layout, as you may need extension cables. Dimensions are about 63.2 x 29.4 x 0.1 inches (roughly 160 x 75 x 0.3 cm).

Who it suits

It suits RVs, boats, vans and cabins with curved or weight-sensitive roofs, and anyone who wants a low-profile panel for an off-grid battery system.

What to check before you buy

  • Surface and fixing method: confirm what the panel can be attached to and how, following the manual.
  • Heat and airflow: a panel mounted flat against a surface may run hotter.
  • Charge controller: you need a controller suited to a 12 V system and the panel's current.
  • Cable length: the supplied leads are 27.6 inches, so plan the run.
  • Roof space: the panel is over 5 feet long, so measure.
  • Handling: flexible panels should be bent only within the stated limits.

The short version

  • 200 W semi-flexible monocrystalline panel for 12 V systems.
  • Bends within 240 degrees and weighs about half as much as a rigid panel, according to Renogy.
  • Half-cut PERC cells, IP67 junction box and connectors.
  • 2400 Pa wind and 5400 Pa snow loads, as listed.
  • Pre-drilled holes and 12 AWG connector cables included.
