The Night Cat CA-ZP-11-AGN is a lightweight single-layer dome tent for one or two people. Night Cat designs it for backpacking, hiking, cycling and motorcycle trips, as well as scouts and backyard camping. It weighs 2.5 kg and packs small, so it suits trips where you carry everything yourself.
Size and sleeping space
The inner size is listed as 7.0 x 4.8 x 3.6 ft (about 2.1 x 1.5 x 1.1 m). Night Cat describes it as comfortable for one person with gear, or two people with little spare room. For two sleepers, expect to share close quarters and keep packs outside or at your feet. Check the height against your own if you're tall.
Weight and packed size
The tent weighs 2.5 kg (5.5 lb) and packs to 42 x 13 x 13 cm (16.5 x 5.1 x 5.1 in) with the poles folded. That size fits inside or on a typical backpack. Ultralight hikers often prefer lighter tents, but this is a reasonable weight for a two-person shelter, especially when the load is split between two people.
Rain protection
The polyester fabric has a PU coating rated at 3000mm, a hydrostatic head figure. As a general guide, higher numbers resist heavier, longer rain, and 3000mm is commonly considered suitable for typical camping showers. Night Cat says all seams are sealed with waterproof tape and describes the tent as heavy-rainproof even in storms. Pitching in a sheltered spot and staking it properly makes a real difference in bad weather.
Ventilation
Single-layer tents can build up condensation inside. Night Cat includes a large mesh door and a mesh window in the roof to keep air moving while keeping insects out. Opening both helps in warm weather, and pitching away from standing water reduces condensation.
Setup and poles
Two fibreglass poles slide through diagonal sleeves, and Night Cat says setup takes one to two minutes by hand, with pack-down also quick. The poles are covered in a protective case, which Night Cat says guards your hands from fibreglass splinters during assembly. Fibreglass is typically heavier and less stiff than aluminium, but it is easy to work with.
Who it suits
It suits casual backpackers, scouts, young campers and anyone wanting a simple shelter for three-season trips. It is a less natural choice for winter, high-wind alpine camping or long expeditions.
What to check before you buy
- Your height and space: compare the inner dimensions with the number of people and the kit you carry.
- Season and weather: confirm it suits the conditions you expect.
- Ground: use a footprint or groundsheet, and check that stakes suit the soil.
- Condensation: plan for airflow in cool, humid conditions.
- Care: dry the tent fully before storing, and check the seam tape from time to time.
- What's in the box: confirm the poles, stakes and ropes included.
