The ECOVACS GOAT A3000 LiDAR PRO is a robotic lawn mower that finds its way around a yard without a buried perimeter wire. It is aimed at medium to large lawns, where mowing on a schedule saves regular weekend work. Here is what its navigation, cutting system and battery mean in practice.
How wire-free navigation works
Older robotic mowers rely on a boundary wire pegged or buried around the lawn. ECOVACS says the A3000 needs no perimeter wire and no RTK antenna (the fixed satellite base station some mowers use). Instead, its HoloScope 360° dual-LiDAR system maps the yard. LiDAR measures distances with laser pulses, so the mower builds a picture of fences, trees and borders as it moves.
The brand rates positioning accuracy at 2 cm and points out that this holds under trees, along fences and in shade, where satellite-based mowers can lose signal. In general, mapping by sensors rather than by satellites can help in yards with heavy tree cover. As with any robot, the map is only as good as the first set-up, so it pays to follow the manual closely.
Cutting to the edges
The mower has a built-in TruEdge trimmer for borders along sidewalks, driveways, fences and flower beds. ECOVACS designed it to reduce the string trimming you do afterwards. Robotic mowers typically leave a thin strip at obstacles because the cutting disc sits inside the body, so an integrated trimmer addresses a common complaint. You may still need to touch up a few awkward spots by hand.
Power and blades
The A3000 runs on a 32V platform with a dual-blade disc. ECOVACS says this provides strong cutting torque and fast blade speed for dense, fast-growing grass and uneven ground. The listing names Bermuda, Zoysia, Fescue and St. Augustine as grasses it is built to handle. Thick, coarse lawns put more load on the blades than fine turf, so this is worth noting if you have a warm-season grass.
Battery and charging
A 7500 mAh battery and 189W fast charging are specified. ECOVACS says a full recharge takes about 70 minutes. A short charging window matters for scheduled mowing, because the mower returns to its dock, recharges and goes back out until the job is done. Actual coverage per charge depends on grass height, slopes and settings, so the brand's figures are best treated as a guide.
Controlling it from the app
In the ECOVACS app you can edit the map, create several mowing zones, set no-go areas, adjust cutting height and speed, and define the paths the mower takes between zones. That suits yards split by a driveway, a garden bed or a play area. Schedules let you choose when it works, for example when nobody is using the lawn.
Size and weight
The unit measures about 30.2 x 17.0 x 22.8 inches (77 x 43 x 58 cm) and weighs 64.5 lb (about 29 kg). It is a substantial machine, so plan for where it will dock and how you will lift it if you need to move it.
Who it suits
It suits owners of medium to large lawns who want regular, scheduled mowing, especially in yards with trees or fences that make wire laying or satellite positioning awkward.
What to check before you buy
- Lawn size and shape: compare the brand's stated coverage with your yard, including slopes and narrow passages.
- Grass type and height: check that your grass falls within the cutting heights the app offers.
- Dock location: you need a level spot near a power outlet and with open space around it.
- Safety: read the manual on blade safety, children and pets, and keep people clear while it works.
- Upkeep: blades and the trimmer wear down, so check what replacement parts are available.
- Connectivity: map editing and scheduling use the app, so confirm your phone and Wi-Fi coverage reach the yard.
The short version
- A wire-free robotic mower with dual-LiDAR mapping and 2 cm positioning accuracy, as ECOVACS states.
- Built-in TruEdge trimmer for sidewalks, fences and beds.
- 32V system with a dual-blade disc for dense grass.
- 7500 mAh battery, 189W fast charging, about 70 minutes to full.
- App control with custom zones, no-go areas and adjustable cutting height.
