The Waykar DP600B is a large commercial-style dehumidifier for basements, garages, libraries, pool areas and other big spaces where damp air is a problem. Waykar rates it at up to 155 pints of moisture removal per day and for areas up to 8,000 square feet. Here is what those figures mean and how the unit is used.
What 155 pints a day means
Dehumidifier capacity is the volume of water removed per day under set test conditions. Waykar states the 155-pint figure applies at 95°F and 90% relative humidity, which is warm and very humid. In cooler, drier rooms, such as a typical basement, output is usually considerably lower, so treat the headline number as a maximum. The 8,000 sq ft figure is likewise the brand's upper limit for the area covered.
Humidity control
The unit has an adjustable humidity setting from 10% to 90% RH. In humidity auto control, you pick a target and the machine senses the room and cycles to hold it. Many people aim for roughly 40-60% RH indoors. Setting 10% puts it into continuous dehumidifying mode, according to Waykar. A 24-hour timer lets you schedule operation.
Draining the water
There are two ways to handle the water:
- Continuous drainage: a 6.56 ft (2 m) drain hose is included, so water can run to a floor drain without emptying anything. The drain must be lower than the unit.
- Tank: the 1.32 gallon tank collects water otherwise, and the unit switches itself off when the tank is full until you empty it.
A high-capacity unit can fill a small tank quickly, which is why the hose is helpful for long runs.
Auto defrost and restart
When the coils ice up, which can happen in cooler conditions, the unit's auto defrost clears them. After a power outage, auto restart returns it to its previous settings without you needing to reprogram it.
Moving it around
The unit weighs 59.5 lb (about 27 kg) and measures 13.4 x 13.4 x 24.6 inches. Waykar fits universal castors, recessed handles and a lift-up handle. Controls are on a digital touch panel. The removable filter should be cleaned regularly, as the brand says.
Who it suits
It suits large basements, workshops, storage rooms and other spaces that stay damp. For a small bedroom, a smaller unit is likely to be more appropriate.
What to check before you buy
- Real conditions: think about your room's typical temperature and humidity, since the 155-pint figure is a best case.
- Drain route: confirm you have a floor drain, sump or lower exit that the hose can reach.
- Power: check the outlet and circuit requirements in the manual, and avoid extension cords unless it permits them.
- Noise: large compressor units can be loud; consider where it will sit.
- Cleaning: plan to clean the filter and empty the tank if not draining continuously.
- Support terms: Waykar lists its return period and warranty terms in its own materials; read them before you buy.
