The EUHOMY 50-pint dehumidifier is a floor-standing unit made for large, damp spaces such as basements, laundry rooms and cellars. It pulls moisture out of the air and collects it in a tank or sends it down a hose. EUHOMY rates it for areas up to 4,500 square feet.
What the pint figures mean
Dehumidifier capacity is measured in pints of water removed per day, and the number depends on the test conditions. EUHOMY gives three figures for this model: up to 50 pints per day under the ENERGY STAR certification test, up to 72 pints under the 2019 DOE standard, and up to 110 pints at 86°F and 80% humidity. The hotter and damper the test, the higher the number, so the 50-pint figure is the one closest to ordinary home conditions. When comparing any dehumidifiers, make sure you are looking at the same standard.
The four operating modes
The control panel offers four modes:
- SET: you choose a target humidity between 35% and 80%, and the unit runs until it reaches it.
- COMFORT: EUHOMY says it keeps humidity in a range comfortable for people without manual settings.
- DRYER: aimed at drying damp laundry indoors.
- CONT.: continuous running, intended for spaces that stay wet.
There is also a timer of up to 24 hours and adjustable fan speed. Auto shut-off, auto restart after a power cut and a defrost function are listed as well. Defrost matters in cool spaces, because the coil can ice up at low temperatures.
Two ways to drain
The tank holds 1.59 gallons (about 6 litres). When it fills, the unit stops and an indicator lights so you can empty it. For a basement that needs constant running, the included 39.37-inch (1 metre) drain hose lets water flow out continuously. Gravity does the work, so the outlet needs to be lower than the unit, such as a floor drain or a sink. If there is no drain nearby, the tank is the option.
Moving it around
The dehumidifier measures 18.9 x 9.9 x 19.1 inches (about 48 x 25 x 49 cm). It has side handles and wheels on the base, and a strap on the unit keeps the power cord tidy. The filter is washable, and EUHOMY recommends cleaning it about once a month. A clogged filter generally reduces airflow and performance.
Who it suits
It suits people with a large damp basement, a laundry area or a storage room where moisture causes a musty smell or condensation. For a closet or small bathroom, a unit this size is more than needed. The capacity figures are about room volume and dampness, so a very wet space will usually need a bigger machine than the square footage alone suggests.
What to check before you buy
- Room size and dampness: match the capacity figure to your space and how wet it gets, not just the square footage.
- Drainage: confirm there is a floor drain or sink lower than the unit if you want to use the hose.
- Temperature: check the manual's operating temperature range if the space is cold.
- Power and placement: leave clearance around the unit for airflow, and plug it into a suitable outlet.
- Upkeep: plan on regular filter cleaning and emptying the tank if you are not draining continuously.
- Warranty: EUHOMY lists a one-year warranty.
