The Kesnos JD025N-80 is a portable dehumidifier rated to remove up to 80 pints of moisture a day. Kesnos aims it at basements, bedrooms, bathrooms, offices and other medium to large spaces where damp air is a problem. It carries ENERGY STAR and CSA certifications.

Understanding the 80-pint figure

A dehumidifier's pint capacity is the amount of water it can remove from the air in 24 hours, under set test conditions. Kesnos gives its figure at 95°F and 90% relative humidity. In general, a cooler or less humid room will produce a lower daily output than the headline number, so use the figure as a comparison point rather than a promise for a particular space.

Coverage and humidity range

Kesnos says the unit suits spaces up to 5,500 sq ft (about 510 m²), and the humidity level can be set between 30% and 80% RH. Kesnos also says that 40% to 60% RH is a suitable range for living spaces. Coverage figures assume an open layout, and a closed room with several moisture sources may need more capacity.

The front LED display

The front display shows the real-time humidity reading, and Kesnos says this is easy to read in the dark. You can turn the display off without affecting operation. The unit stops automatically when it reaches the preset humidity. It also restarts after a power failure and remembers its settings, which helps if it runs in a basement or unattended space.

ENERGY STAR certification

Kesnos says the unit has 2023 ENERGY STAR Most Efficient certification and describes it as about 45% more energy-efficient than similar products. These are the brand's claims. In general, ENERGY STAR certified dehumidifiers remove more water per unit of electricity than standard ones, and the programme's own listings are the place to confirm a model's status.

Three ways to drain

  • Tank: the 1.06-gallon tank has a carrying handle. The unit shuts off automatically when the tank is full, which helps prevent overflow.
  • Hose: a 3.3 ft drain hose is included for continuous drainage.
  • Garden hose: it is compatible with a garden hose that has an internally threaded end. That hose is not included.

Moving it and keeping it clean

The unit measures 10.7 x 13.9 x 19.6 inches (27 x 35 x 50 cm) and weighs 30.4 lb (about 13.8 kg). It has 360° wheels, recessed handles and cord storage. The filter is removable and reusable, so upkeep is a matter of washing it, as the manual describes.

Support

Kesnos lists a 30-day money-back policy, a one-year quality coverage with an extension in the second year, and technical support. Check the seller's current terms for details.

Who it suits

It suits homeowners with a damp basement, laundry area or large living room who want a unit that can run continuously with a drain hose.

What to check before you buy

  • Room conditions: compare room size, temperature and humidity with the test conditions for the 80-pint figure.
  • Drainage route: decide between emptying the tank, using the hose, or attaching a garden hose.
  • Placement: leave space around the unit for airflow.
  • Noise: check the manual's sound level if it will run in a bedroom.
  • Operating range: check the temperature range the unit works in, especially for cold basements.
  • Upkeep: plan for regular filter washing and tank emptying.
