The Waykar AFD2.5DPM is a large dehumidifier built for places where a household unit struggles: crawl spaces, basements, mechanical rooms and whole-house ducted installations. It is rated to remove up to 158 pints of moisture a day and comes with a wired control panel, a remote humidity sensor and a built-in pump, so it can run in spaces you would rather not enter often.

What 158 pints a day means

Dehumidifier capacity is the amount of water the unit can pull from the air in 24 hours under set test conditions. Waykar rates this model at 158 pints per day at 95°F and 90% relative humidity, which is a very damp, warm test. In ordinary conditions, output is typically lower, so the figure is best used to compare units rated under the same conditions rather than as a daily promise. Waykar says it suits crawl spaces, basements and areas up to 6,500 sq. ft., with a 206 CFM airflow and a brushless motor, and humidity adjustable from 10% to 90% RH.

Dual ducts and whole-house use

This model has separate intake and exhaust duct connections. In general, ducting lets a dehumidifier draw air from one place and deliver dry air to another, instead of simply recirculating the air around the unit. That is useful when it is tied into an HVAC system or when the machine sits in a crawl space or attic and the dried air needs to go somewhere specific. Waykar positions it for whole-house installations as well as restoration work after water damage.

Controls and sensing

The wired control panel can be installed up to 32.8 ft. (10 m) from the unit, so you can change settings from outside a tight crawl space. A separate 16.4 ft. (5 m) humidity sensor measures conditions near the area being monitored instead of right beside the machine. Placing the sensor where moisture actually builds up usually gives a truer reading than a sensor mounted on the unit itself, which sees air that has just been dried.

Drainage options

A built-in pump handles water removal. Waykar includes a 16.4 ft. pump hose for draining upward, for example to a sink or out through a window, and a 6.6 ft. gravity hose for a floor drain. Auto defrost is listed to prevent frost on the coils in cool conditions, and overload protection and power-off memory are there to support continuous running and a restart after an outage.

Build and installation

The housing is full metal, which Waykar says resists impact and corrosion. Adjustable feet steady the unit and reduce vibration noise, and handles, hanging hooks and a cord organizer help with moving and mounting. Waykar says it is TÜV-certified for electrical safety. It weighs about 70.9 lb (32 kg) and measures roughly 15.4 x 24.4 x 17.7 inches, so plan for two people when moving it. Waykar lists a 2-year full unit warranty, 5-year compressor protection and technical support.

Who it suits

It suits homeowners dealing with a damp crawl space or basement, contractors doing moisture restoration, and anyone who wants a ducted unit tied into an HVAC system. It is more machine than a small bedroom or a single damp closet needs.

What to check before you buy

  • Space and moisture load: compare your area and how damp it gets with the brand's stated capacity and test conditions.
  • Ducting: plan how the intake and exhaust ducts will connect, and what duct sizes you need.
  • Drainage: check where the pump hose or gravity hose can run, and how high the water must be lifted.
  • Power: confirm the outlet and circuit match the unit's electrical requirements in the manual.
  • Sensor and panel runs: measure the distance to where the control panel and sensor will sit.
  • Upkeep: check the manual for filter cleaning and any seasonal servicing.
  • Noise: a unit of this size can be audible, so consider where you or your household will hear it.
