The Waterdrop X12-Plus (model WD-X12D-WHE) is a tankless reverse osmosis system that installs under the kitchen sink and delivers filtered water through a dedicated faucet. Its main idea is a dual-flow tap: one setting for purified RO water and another that adds minerals back in. It is aimed at households that want filtered drinking and cooking water without a bulky storage tank.
What reverse osmosis does
Reverse osmosis (RO) pushes water through a very fine membrane that blocks many dissolved substances. Because the membrane rejects a share of the water along with those substances, RO systems send some water to the drain. Waterdrop gives the X12-Plus a 3:1 pure-to-drain ratio, meaning roughly three parts of purified water for each part sent down the drain.
Filtration stages and the mineral line
Waterdrop describes the system as having a 10-stage RO filter plus a 12-stage mineral filtration line. The mineral side adds calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium back after purification, which typically changes the taste, since pure RO water can taste flat to some people. The dual-flow faucet lets you choose between the plain RO output and the mineral-added water.
Flow rate and tankless design
The system is rated at 1200 GPD (gallons per day), and Waterdrop says it fills a 6 oz cup in 3.5 seconds. Tankless units typically produce water on demand through a booster pump rather than storing it in a tank. The brand says the design frees up to 70% of under-sink space compared with a tank system. It measures 18.2 x 6.3 x 16.7 inches.
The faucet display
The smart faucet shows real-time TDS readings, an LED status indicator and filter life reminders. A TDS reading is a quick indicator of how much dissolved material is in the water, though it doesn't identify specific substances.
Filter life and installation
Waterdrop lists these replacement intervals:
- F2 and F4A filters: up to 6 months
- F1G filter: up to 12 months
- RO filter: up to 24 months
Actual life depends on your water. The kit includes an installation set and a setup video, and the brand says installation takes about 30 minutes with basic tools.
What to check before you buy
- Under-sink space: measure the cabinet, including the plumbing and any garbage disposal.
- Sink or countertop: the faucet needs a mounting hole, so check what your sink or counter allows.
- Water supply: confirm the incoming pressure and water type suit the system, as the manual describes.
- Drain connection: RO systems need a drain line to the sink's waste pipe.
- Power: a booster pump needs an electrical outlet under the sink.
- Replacement filters: note the intervals above and how you will order them.
