The Waterdrop M6SL (model WD-M6SL) is a countertop reverse osmosis system that dispenses water at room temperature. There is nothing to plumb in: you fill a tank, plug it in and draw filtered water from the spout or the included glass pitcher. It suits kitchens where an under-sink system isn't practical, such as rentals, offices or an RV.
Eight stages and the RO membrane
Waterdrop says the M6SL has eight stages of filtration built around a 0.0001 micron RO membrane. The brand states that, in third-party laboratory testing, it reduces TDS, PFOA, PFOS, nitrate, fluoride, arsenic, lead and other substances. Reverse osmosis in general works by forcing water through a membrane that blocks many dissolved particles.
Mineral infusion
Because RO strips out most minerals, the M6SL adds potassium, calcium, sodium and magnesium back in. Waterdrop describes the result as lightly alkalized water with a balanced taste, intended for drinking, cooking and brewing coffee or tea.
Separate tanks for feed and waste
The unit has a 185 oz tank split into 135 oz for tap water going in and 50 oz for waste water. Waterdrop gives it a 3:1 pure-to-drain ratio and says the two are kept completely separate. The brand suggests the waste water can be reused, for example on plants or for cleaning. Since you fill and empty tanks by hand, it is worth thinking about how often you will do this.
Dispensing and the pitcher
Five preset volumes run from a 4 oz espresso to a 16 oz soup bowl, and a favourite mode stores your usual amount. A filter life indicator and alerts keep track of maintenance. The detachable 40 oz glass pitcher is from the Maxblue brand and can go in the fridge. Waterdrop notes that the pitcher must stay on the unit during flushing.
NFC guide
An NFC label on the unit opens a smart guide on a compatible phone, with installation videos, FAQs and a link to customer support.
Who it suits
A countertop RO unit makes sense for people who want filtered water but can't or don't want to modify the plumbing, including renters, students in shared housing, and small offices. Because the water is stored in a tank rather than drawn from a mains-connected line, it also travels: the brand mentions use in an RV. The trade-off is routine handling, since the tanks and pitcher need regular filling, emptying and cleaning.
What to check before you buy
- Counter space: the unit measures 15.9 x 9.3 x 14.5 inches, so check the height under your cabinets.
- Power: it needs a nearby outlet.
- Refilling: you fill the feed tank and empty the waste tank yourself.
- Taste preferences: minerals are added back, which gives a different taste from plain RO water.
- Filters: check the filter life indicator and how replacements are ordered.
- First use: follow the manual's flushing steps, including leaving the pitcher in place.
