The Waterdrop M6CG (model WD-M6CG) combines a reverse osmosis filter with a water heater and chiller in one countertop unit. Fill the tank, plug it in, and it dispenses filtered water at a temperature you choose. It is meant for spaces without under-sink plumbing: a kitchen counter, an office or an RV.
Filtration and the RO membrane
Waterdrop describes eight stages of filtration with a 0.0001 micron RO membrane. The brand says third-party laboratory testing shows it reduces TDS, PFOA, PFOS, nitrate, fluoride, arsenic, lead and more. In general, RO forces water through a membrane that holds back most dissolved particles, so the output is low in minerals.
Added minerals
To restore taste, the M6CG adds potassium, calcium, sodium, magnesium, strontium and zinc ions. Waterdrop says this gives pure water with a balanced taste.
Hot and cold on demand
The unit cools or heats water to 59°F (15°C) or 203°F (95°C). A favourite mode stores a temperature and volume so you can repeat it without readjusting. Five volume settings run from a 4 oz espresso measure to a 16 oz soup bowl. Water at 203°F is close to boiling, so take care when dispensing, and follow the manual.
Tanks and waste water
A 185 oz tank is divided into 135 oz for tap water and 50 oz for waste water, with a 3:1 pure-to-drain ratio. Waterdrop says the two are kept fully separate, and that the waste water can be reused for plants or cleaning. Because the tanks are filled and emptied by hand, expect to do this regularly.
Pitcher and phone guide
The 40 oz detachable pitcher is made of glass and comes from the Maxblue brand. Leave it on the unit during flushing, as Waterdrop instructs. An NFC label opens an online guide with videos, FAQs and support contacts, and a filter life indicator alerts you to maintenance.
Who it suits
Having hot and cold water from the same filtered source can replace a kettle and a fridge pitcher in one footprint, which is why this type of unit appeals in small kitchens, offices and shared homes. Waterdrop's own use cases include making coffee and tea, cooking and filling a pet's bowl. The trade-off is counter space and routine handling: the unit weighs 26 lb, and the tanks and pitcher need regular filling and cleaning.
What to check before you buy
- Space: 16.6 x 9.3 x 14.5 inches and 26 lb, so check the counter and the cabinet height above it.
- Power: it needs an outlet for the heating and cooling.
- Refilling: the feed tank needs topping up and the waste tank emptying.
- Hot water: think about whether the temperature range suits your household, and any children in it.
- Filters: know the replacement schedule and how to order filters.
- First use: follow the manual's flushing procedure.
