The Waterdrop CT01 (model WD-CT01) is a countertop water dispenser that filters, heats and chills water in one appliance. It needs no plumbing: fill the tank, plug it in and draw water at the temperature you set. It suits kitchens, apartments and offices where fitting a system under the sink is difficult.

A filter, not reverse osmosis

Waterdrop is explicit that the CT01 is not a reverse osmosis system. It has six stages of filtration and a large adsorption area, which the brand says reduces chlorine, rust and other impurities. Because it doesn't use an RO membrane, it keeps minerals such as calcium and magnesium, produces no wastewater and does not significantly lower TDS. Anyone who wants RO should look at a different model.

Hot, cold and presets

Five one-touch presets cover hot, coffee, tea, formula and cold. Temperature is adjustable from 113°F to 203°F (45°C to 95°C), and volume from 4 oz to unlimited. A Favorite Mode remembers your choice. In general, different drinks suit different temperatures, so check the manual and any product instructions, such as a formula maker's, for the right setting.

Tank size and refilling

The tank holds 1.32 gallons, the equivalent of 28 six-ounce cups, and a slim 3.7-inch side tank makes refilling easier. A child safety lock helps prevent accidental dispensing of hot water, but water at these temperatures still needs care around children.

Filter or RO: how to think about the difference

Filters of this kind typically use carbon-based media to adsorb chlorine and similar taste-and-odour compounds, while leaving dissolved minerals in place. RO membranes go further in removing dissolved solids but send water to drain and strip minerals. Neither approach is better in every case. The CT01 sits on the first path, which is why Waterdrop describes it as keeping minerals and producing zero wastewater, and why it points to separate RO models for anyone who wants a different result.

Who it suits

It fits households, apartments and offices that want hot and cold filtered water on the counter and prefer not to touch the plumbing. The five presets make it practical for people who make coffee, tea and other warm drinks through the day.

Filter life and plastic

The filter is rated at up to six months. Waterdrop says the unit can replace more than 4,500 plastic bottles a year, though that depends on how much you drink.

What to check before you buy

  • Filtration goals: it does not substantially lower TDS, so compare its stated reductions with what you want to remove.
  • Size: it measures 14.4 x 10.6 x 13.4 inches; check counter and cabinet clearance.
  • Power: you need an outlet nearby, since it heats and chills.
  • Refilling: the water is topped up by hand from the side tank.
  • Filters: plan to replace the filter about every six months.
