The VEVOR RO2 is a 24-quart electric roaster oven, a countertop appliance for cooking a whole turkey, a large roast or several side dishes. It frees up the main oven on busy days, such as holiday meals, and can keep food warm until it is time to serve.

Capacity: what 24 quarts holds

A quart is about 0.95 litres, so 24 quarts is roughly 22.7 litres. VEVOR says the pot fits a whole turkey with the lid on. Roaster ovens of this size typically take a bird in the region of 20 to 24 lb, but check the manual for the maximum weight and leave space so the lid closes properly.

The pot is non-stick enamel, which VEVOR says heats evenly and resists grease. A sturdy metal rack with handles lifts the roast in and out; VEVOR advises using gloves when lifting it.

Heating and temperature control

The element is rated at 1450W, with a thermostat from 150°F to 450°F (about 65.6°C to 232.2°C). The range covers low, slow heat for warming and braising as well as the higher temperatures for roasting and baking. A single dial or control for temperature is typical of these appliances. VEVOR notes the roaster is not suitable for cooking soup.

At 1450W, the unit draws about 12 amps on a 120-volt outlet. Avoid running other high-power appliances on the same circuit at the same time.

Self-basting lid

The lid is designed to return condensation to the food. As steam rises, it meets the lid and drips back down over the roast, which in general helps keep the surface moist without opening the lid and losing heat. VEVOR says this circulates steam evenly and gives tender results.

Defrost and keep-warm functions

Two extra modes sit alongside the temperature range. Defrost is a gentle setting for frozen food, and warm holds cooked food at serving temperature. Follow the manual and standard food-handling guidance on defrosting meat and on how long cooked food can be held warm.

The three-section tray

The oven comes with a tray that divides into three sections, so vegetables, stuffing and other sides can cook in the same appliance as the main dish. The same arrangement can serve as a small buffet server at the table.

Handles, size and weight

Cool-touch side handles make carrying and serving easier. The roaster measures 15.7 x 23.3 x 13.2 inches (about 40 x 59 x 34 cm) and weighs 16.1 lb (about 7.3 kg), so it needs a good stretch of counter and somewhere to keep it between uses.

Who it suits

It suits households that cook for gatherings, anyone short of oven space at a big meal, and people who like a set-and-hold appliance for roasts, baked dishes and stews. For cooking for one or two daily, the pot is larger than necessary.

What to check before you buy

  • Counter space and storage: the footprint is about 23 inches long.
  • Turkey or roast size: compare it with the stated 24-quart capacity and the manual's weight limit.
  • Power: confirm the outlet and circuit can handle 1450W.
  • What you cook: VEVOR says it isn't suitable for soup.
  • Cleaning: check the manual on cleaning the enamel pot, rack and lid, and on which parts are dishwasher-safe.
  • Handling: hot surfaces, steam and the rack need care; use gloves as advised.
