The VEVOR SCA-90BW is a 9kW electric sauna heater for a home, hotel or small spa sauna. It is wall-mounted, uses stones to hold and release heat, and is controlled from a panel outside the room. It needs a special electrical supply, so installation planning matters as much as the specs.
Sizing the heater to the room
VEVOR rates the heater for sauna rooms of 317 to 459 cubic feet (9 to 13 m³). In general, a sauna heater should match the room's volume: too small and it struggles to reach temperature, too large and it can overheat or cycle harshly. Glass doors and windows, and unfinished walls, typically increase the needed output, so check VEVOR's guidance and the manual rather than only the volume.
Power and wiring
The heater runs on 220-240V AC. VEVOR is clear that this is a special voltage and that site conditions need evaluating before use. No plug is included, and you must buy the external wiring and an air switch separately. VEVOR lists a 7AWG wire specification and an air switch of at least 54A. Wiring a 9kW load is work for a qualified electrician, who will also check local electrical codes and your panel's capacity.
Stones and heat
Sauna stones are not included. VEVOR states the heater needs about 33 lb (15 kg) of stones, which absorb heat and release it into the room. Typically, stones also let you add water for steam, but follow the manual for the type and size of stones to use and how to load them.
Construction
The shell is aluminized zinc, which VEVOR says resists corrosion in humid rooms, and the heating element is 304 stainless steel, chosen for quick, even heat. The heater measures 16.1 x 10.6 x 22 inches (about 41 x 27 x 56 cm) and weighs 20 lb (about 9 kg).
External controller
The digital controller mounts outside the sauna, with a display for temperature and time. VEVOR describes two modes: Normal mode, which heats for up to four hours, and Preset mode, which starts and stops automatically at set times. The listing also mentions a 3-hour timer and adjustable temperature, so confirm the exact timer behaviour in the manual.
Wall mounting
A pre-drilled bracket with turnbuckles lets you mount the heater on the wall, which saves floor space. VEVOR recommends mounting it with the base 3.5 inches from the floor. Heaters need clearance from benches and walls, so follow the manual's minimum distances.
Who it suits
It suits people building or upgrading a sauna of the right size who have, or can add, a suitable electrical supply. VEVOR lists residential saunas, spas and fitness centres. It is not a plug-and-play item.
What to check before you buy
- Room volume: confirm it falls within 9 to 13 m³.
- Electrical supply: check voltage, circuit capacity and the cable and air switch needed.
- Electrician: have the installation done to local code and the manual.
- Stones: allow space and time for about 15 kg of stones.
- Clearances: check required distances from benches and walls.
- Certifications: the title mentions FCC certification; ask about any other approvals your area requires for sauna heaters.
