The Frizzlife LPG365-P is a smart shutoff valve that fits onto a home's main water line. It watches the flow through the pipe for unusual use, listens for signals from wireless leak sensors, and can close the water supply automatically. It also reports flow and pressure to a phone app. Here is how its parts work and what to confirm before installing one.
Two ways of detecting a leak
The valve combines two methods. The first is built-in ultrasonic flow monitoring on the main line. Frizzlife says it detects flow changes as small as 0.01 gallons per minute (GPM), which is the scale of a dripping tap, a running toilet or a slow leak inside a wall. Ultrasonic meters measure flow with sound waves rather than a spinning part, so there is nothing mechanical in the water path to wear.
The second is a set of wireless leak sensors placed where water tends to escape: beside a water heater, under a sink, behind a washing machine or in a basement. When a sensor detects water, it signals the valve to close.
Long-range sensors
The sensors talk to the valve over LoRa, a low-power radio technology that typically reaches further and passes through walls better than ordinary Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Frizzlife says this helps keep the link stable in larger homes. The package includes three sensors, and one valve can pair with up to 50 LR80 sensors. Check the sensor battery type and replacement schedule in the manual.
App control and alerts
The valve connects to the Frizzlife app over 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Frizzlife lists remote open and close control, alerts by app, SMS and phone call, and usage reports showing flow rate and pressure. The LPG365-P is the version with an extra pressure display. That is handy for spotting pressure that is unusually high or low, though what counts as normal depends on your home.
Pipe sizes and what's included
The valve fits 1-inch and 3/4-inch NPT pipe. The box contains the valve with the three sensors, a 1-inch male NPT connection, two 3/4-inch male NPT adapters, a plug, a 6.6 ft (2 m) power cable and plumbing tape. It measures 7.0 x 4.7 x 2.7 inches (about 18 x 12 x 7 cm) and weighs 5.1 lb (2.3 kg). It is listed as NSF/ANSI 61 and 372 certified for water contact.
Frizzlife recommends professional installation, since the valve goes onto the main line. Work on the main supply is a plumber's job in many places, so follow local codes and the manual.
Who it suits
It suits owners of homes, cottages or rental properties who are sometimes away and want the water to shut off by itself if something fails. It also suits anyone with appliances that carry a leak risk, such as a washing machine or water heater, and those who want to see how much water the household uses.
What to check before you buy
- Pipe type and size: confirm the main line is 3/4 or 1 inch and that there is straight pipe and room for the valve.
- Power and Wi-Fi: you need an outlet near the valve, and a Wi-Fi signal that reaches it.
- Sensor placement: list the spots in your home where a leak is most likely, and check three sensors cover them.
- Installation: decide whether you need a plumber, and check local codes and the manual.
- Alerts: confirm how you will be notified if the internet is down.
- Upkeep: check sensor battery life and test the valve from time to time, as the manual describes.
The short version
