The VEVOR 110V Commercial Electric Ice Shaver is a countertop machine that turns block or cubed ice into fine shaved ice for snow cones, slushies and frozen drinks. It has a 300W motor, dual stainless steel blades and a large clear storage box, and VEVOR lists it for homes, schools, churches, restaurants and bars.

What the output figure means

VEVOR gives the machine's capacity as about 661 lb of ice per hour (around 300 kg). That is a maximum figure under ideal conditions, with ice fed continuously. Real output depends on the ice you load, how quickly you feed it and how fine you want it. For an event or a stand serving a queue of customers, a high capacity means the machine is unlikely to be the bottleneck. For a family party, you will use only a fraction of it.

Motor and blades

The 300W copper motor turns at 1450 r/min. The heavy-duty stainless steel dual blades are described as twice as efficient as single-blade machines, since two cutting edges work on each turn. The package also includes an extra pair of blades and an ice scoop. Blades dull with use, so spares are practical for regular operation. Food-grade stainless steel is typically chosen because it resists rust and is easy to clean.

Hopper and storage box

Ice goes into a stainless hopper with a 4.5 inch opening, which limits the size of pieces that fit. Shaved ice falls into a one-piece injection-moulded polycarbonate box that holds about 50 L (13.2 gal). VEVOR says the thickened material helps keep the shaved ice frozen longer. A drainage hose carries excess meltwater away from the work surface.

Controls and certification

An ergonomic handle helps push the ice through, and a limit switch is built in as a safeguard so the machine responds as the cover or handle is positioned. The on/off switch is waterproof, which VEVOR says allows use with wet hands. The machine carries ETL certification, which VEVOR cites as approval for commercial use. ETL is a recognised third-party electrical safety listing mark in North America. Even so, follow the manual: keep fingers away from blades, unplug before cleaning and never reach into the hopper while it is running.

Size, weight and setup

It measures 24 x 20 x 16 inches (about 61 x 51 x 41 cm) and weighs 25 lb (about 11.3 kg). Non-slip feet keep it steady on a counter. It needs a sturdy, dry surface near a standard 110V outlet, and a place to drain meltwater.

Beyond snow cones

VEVOR lists snow cones, slushies, milkshakes and yogurt freezes. In general, the texture of shaved ice differs from crushed cubes: finer ice absorbs syrup and soaks quickly, while coarser ice stays crunchy.

Who it suits

It suits concession stands, school and church fundraisers, bars, cafés and keen home hosts who want large quantities of fine ice. Anyone who needs a few servings a year may find a smaller hand-crank or compact electric model more fitting.

What to check before you buy

  • Ice supply: check you can keep enough ice on hand, and whether it needs to be tempered slightly before shaving.
  • Hopper size: make sure your ice fits through the 4.5 inch opening.
  • Counter space: allow room for the machine, storage box and drain hose.
  • Cleaning: plan regular washing of the hopper, box and blades, as food-service hygiene rules may apply.
  • Spare parts: blades wear, so keep the spare pair accessible.
  • Business use: check any local food-service rules for the machine and your venue.
