The COSORI CP267-FD is a large countertop food dehydrator with ten stainless steel trays. It dries fruit, vegetables, herbs and jerky by moving gently heated air across the food for hours. It is aimed at households that dry in big batches and want a timer and a precise temperature setting.

How a dehydrator works

A dehydrator doesn't cook food so much as slowly remove its moisture. A heating element warms the air, and a fan moves it over the food so moisture is carried away. Even airflow matters because food on one tray can otherwise dry faster than food on another. COSORI says the rear-mounted fan helps with even drying across the trays.

Capacity and trays

The ten trays each measure about 15.6 x 15 inches (roughly 39.5 x 38 cm) and add up to 16.2 square feet of drying area. COSORI says the machine can hold up to 21.5 lb (about 9.8 kg) of raw beef at the maximum. The trays are stainless steel and, according to the brand, BPA-free in the food-contact parts. A mesh screen for small items such as herbs and a fruit roll sheet are included, and COSORI sells additional ones.

Temperature and timer

The temperature range is 95°F to 165°F (35°C to 74°C) in 1°F steps. Lower settings are typically used for herbs and delicate produce, and higher ones for meat. COSORI says the 165°F maximum follows USDA jerky guidelines. For meat, follow the manual and current food-safety guidance for preparation and temperature.

The timer runs from 30 minutes to 48 hours, in 30-minute steps. COSORI lists automatic shut-off when the timer finishes, overheat protection and a memory function. Controls are on a touch panel with an LED display.

Power, size and weight

It runs at 1000W on 120V, 60Hz. The listing gives dimensions of about 16.9 x 21.3 x 16.4 inches (43 x 54 x 42 cm) and a weight of around 36 lb (16 kg), though another listing figure gives 40.7 lb. Either way, it's a heavy appliance, so decide where it will live. COSORI describes it as quiet in use.

Cleaning and extras

Accessories are listed as dishwasher-safe. A recipe book with 50 recipes is included, written for beginners according to COSORI.

Who it suits

A ten-tray unit suits people who dry large quantities, such as a garden harvest, bulk jerky or fruit leather, and those who dry different foods at once. Occasional users with small needs may find a smaller machine easier to put away.

What to check before you buy

  • Space: measure the counter, and check there's clearance around it for airflow.
  • Storage: its size and weight make it awkward to move on and off a shelf.
  • Power: 1000W on a standard 120V outlet; avoid sharing the circuit with other heavy appliances.
  • Tray size: check that your food fits the 15.6 x 15 inch trays.
  • Accessories: see what's included and what you'd need to add.
  • Food safety: follow the manual and current guidance for drying meat.
