The VEVOR 1.1 Gallon Water Distiller is a countertop appliance that boils water and condenses the steam back into liquid. It is designed for homes, offices, labs and clinics that want distilled water, which is used for things like small appliances, hobby projects and lab-type tasks. This page covers what its specs mean.

How a countertop distiller works

A distiller heats water in a tank until it turns to steam. The steam travels through a cooling coil, where it condenses and drips into a collecting container. Many dissolved solids stay behind in the tank, because they don't evaporate along with the water. VEVOR says that this process removes solids, VOCs and other impurities.

Output and capacity

A 750-watt heating element drives it. VEVOR rates output at up to 0.3 gallon (1 L) per hour and about 6 gallons (24 L) per day when run continuously. The tank and glass carafe both hold 1.1 gallons (4 L). So a full batch takes several hours, and you plan around that rather than expecting a quick fill.

Timer and temperature display

A 0-99 hour timer lets you set the run length. For a full 4 L load, VEVOR suggests 3.5 hours. This leaves a little water in the bottom of the tank at the end, which the brand says reduces limescale. The control panel shows the set temperature, adjustable from 30°C to 108°C (86°F to 226.4°F).

The brand lists two protections. Heating stops when the temperature goes above 115°C (239°F), and the unit shuts down automatically above 150°C (302°F). VEVOR also mentions the timer as suitable for constant-temperature jobs such as making hydrosols and essential oils.

Materials

Parts that touch water, including the inner tank, inner cap and outlet, are food-grade 304 stainless steel according to VEVOR. The carafe is glass with a silicone buffer, which VEVOR says resists cracking, and glass typically doesn't absorb tastes the way some plastics can. A four-blade aluminium fan and a stainless condensing coil cool the steam.

Included accessories

The box has a bottle of cleaning powder for the tank and three replaceable carbon packs. The carbon pack goes at the water outlet, and VEVOR says it further filters the water and adjusts its taste. Limescale builds up in any boiling appliance, so regular cleaning matters.

Size and weight

The unit measures about 9.3 x 9.3 x 15.2 inches (24 x 24 x 39 cm) and weighs 12.6 lb (5.7 kg), so it fits on most counters, though you will want space around it for the fan and steam.

Who it suits

It suits households and small workplaces that regularly need distilled water in modest volumes and don't mind a slow, hands-off cycle. If you plan to drink the water, check the manual and local guidance.

What to check before you buy

  • Volume you need: about 1 L an hour is slow for large quantities.
  • Counter space and outlet: allow room for airflow and a suitable power connection.
  • Running time: it runs for hours, so pick a spot where that is acceptable, and follow the manual on supervision.
  • Cleaning: plan for descaling with the powder, especially with hard water.
  • Consumables: check how often the carbon packs need replacing and whether spares are available.
