The Invigorated Water stainless steel pitcher is an 8-cup filter jug that treats tap water as you pour it. The brand calls it a pH Vitality pitcher and says its filter raises alkalinity as well as filtering the water. A steel body gives it a different look and feel from the usual clear plastic jug.

The filter pouch

Instead of a conventional cartridge, this pitcher uses what the brand calls an on-the-go filter pouch. Invigorated Water says the pouch holds a blend of more than ten filter materials, and that it lets minerals such as calcium and magnesium through while softening the water. The brand states the water's alkalinity rises up to pH 9. In general, mineral-based media of this kind change pH a little, and the result depends on the water you start with.

The pouch is rated for up to 105 gallons, which the brand also gives as 400 litres or about 1,700 cups. Real-world life depends on how much you filter and on your local water.

Capacity and the fill process

The brand says each fill filters up to 1.9 litres. As with all gravity pitchers, you fill the top reservoir with tap water and wait while it passes through the filter into the lower chamber. There is no power or plumbing. Plan on filling it ahead of time rather than expecting an instant glass.

Design and materials

Invigorated Water describes a sleek steel build with a curved design that suits the table as well as the fridge. The listing gives its size as about 6.1 x 6.1 x 12.9 inches (roughly 15.5 x 15.5 x 33 cm), so it is tall and narrow. The company says the materials are BPA-free and food grade, and that its filters carry a brand membership of the Water Quality Association. A steel body does not show the water level, so you will need to lift the lid or pour to check.

Who it suits

It suits small households, desks and dining tables where you want a jug that looks tidy, and anyone replacing bottled water for daily drinking, cooking, coffee or tea. A smaller 8-cup size also takes up less fridge space than a large family jug.

What to check before you buy

  • Fridge fit: at nearly 13 inches tall, check shelf clearance before buying.
  • Capacity: 8 cups is smaller than many family pitchers; consider how often you will refill.
  • Replacement pouches: confirm the matching filter pouch is available when the first one is used up.
  • Water level: a steel body hides the water, so you cannot see when it is nearly empty.
  • Cleaning: follow the manual on cleaning and on whether any parts are dishwasher-safe.
