The Frizzlife MD40-ALK is an 18-cup filter pitcher with an electric dispenser. Instead of waiting for water to drip through a filter by gravity, you press a button and it filters as it pours. Here is what its design and specifications mean.

How the electric dispenser differs from a gravity pitcher

In a gravity pitcher, water seeps slowly through the filter, so you wait for a refill. Frizzlife says the MD40-ALK filters as it pours, with one button press giving water on demand. A 4500 mAh rechargeable battery powers the pump, and the brand says a charge lasts 20 to 30 days. The tank holds 4.2 litres (18 cups).

Two filters, CBX and ALK

The unit comes with two pre-installed filters, called CBX and ALK, rather than the single filter common in pitchers. Frizzlife says the dual filtration reduces chlorine, lead, fluoride, PFAS, PFOA and PFOS, and claims reduction of up to 99.9% of contaminants. The mineral (ALK) filter adds calcium, magnesium and potassium, which the brand says raises pH and gives a mildly alkaline, smooth mineral taste. The listing also notes that the system does not lower TDS values, which matters if you plan to judge it with a TDS meter.

Certification

Frizzlife states that the unit is tested and certified by IAPMO R&T against NSF/ANSI 53, 42 and 372. In general, 42 covers aesthetic effects such as chlorine taste, 53 covers health-related reductions such as lead, and 372 covers lead-free materials. The pitcher is described as BPA-free. Check the certification data sheet for exactly which claims were verified.

Filter life and changing

Each filter set is rated for up to 400 gallons or 6 months. Filters twist in and out, and Frizzlife describes replacement as a one-second job. Real life depends on your tap water.

Size and where it fits

The listed size is about 7.5 x 7.1 x 9.8 inches (19 x 18 x 25 cm) and the weight is 5 lb (about 2.3 kg). Frizzlife says it fits kitchen counters, offices, dorms, RVs and refrigerator shelves, so it can be chilled in the fridge.

Who it suits

It suits households, offices and dorms that want filtered water without plumbing work, and people who find slow gravity pitchers frustrating. It is not a substitute for an under-sink system if you need high volumes.

What to check before you buy

  • Fridge or counter space: measure shelf height if you want to chill it.
  • Taste preferences: a mineral filter changes taste, and some people prefer plain filtered water.
  • TDS expectations: it does not lower TDS, as the listing notes.
  • Charging: confirm the charging method and where you will plug it in.
  • Replacement filters: check availability and the schedule.
  • Your water: if you have specific concerns, compare the certified claims with your water report.
