The Roborock S8 is a robot that vacuums and mops in one pass. It combines 6000Pa suction, a dual rubber roller brush and a vibrating mop with LiDAR navigation and 3D obstacle avoidance. It is aimed at homes with mixed floors and pet hair.
Navigation and obstacle avoidance
Roborock uses PreciSense LiDAR to map rooms, and adds 3D structured light and infrared imaging to spot objects on the floor. The brand says it can identify unknown objects, judge their size and location, and steer around them in bright or dark rooms. Together with 3D mapping, it builds detailed maps for more accurate, customised cleaning. Quick Mapping lets you start without hand-holding the first run.
The DuoRoller brush
Instead of a bristle brush, the S8 uses two rubber rollers. Roborock says this dual system improves vacuuming and tangles less hair. Rubber rollers typically make hair easier to remove from the brush, which matters with long hair and pets. The brand says it handles hardwood, tile, carpets and rugs.
What 6000Pa means
Pascals measure suction pressure. At 6000Pa, Roborock says the robot removes dust, debris and pet hair from carpets and floors, and Carpet Boost+ adds extra power when carpet is detected. Higher figures generally mean a stronger pull, though brush design and floor type also affect results.
Sonic mopping with VibraRise 2.0
The VibraRise 2.0 mop plate vibrates, which Roborock says gives a wider mopping zone, up to 3000 scrubs per minute and over 6N of consistent pressure. The brand says this helps with stains from soda and dried-on spills. The listing also mentions an auto-lifting mop, which typically raises the pad when the robot moves onto carpet.
Connecting and setting up the dock
The robot supports only 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. Most routers offer both bands, so you may need to switch to 2.4GHz during setup. Roborock suggests placing the docking station on a hard, flat surface near a wall, with 1 m (3.3 ft) of clearance in front and above. The listing mentions Alexa compatibility. The dimensions are listed as 13.9 x 13.8 x 3.8 inches.
Who it suits
It suits households with pets, mixed hard floors and carpet, and people who want vacuuming and mopping on a schedule. Those with many small objects on the floor may value the obstacle detection.
What to check before you buy
- Wi-Fi: confirm your router has a 2.4GHz network.
- Dock space: make sure the clearance Roborock recommends fits your layout.
- Floors: check which of your floors suit wet mopping, and follow the manual.
- Height: measure under furniture against the 3.8-inch body height, while noting the LiDAR turret can add height.
- Upkeep: plan to empty the bin, rinse the mop pad and clean the brush rollers.
- Smart home: check app and voice-assistant support for your devices.
