The Roborock S8+ is a robot vacuum with a sonic mop and a self-empty dock. It cleans floors on a schedule, lifts its mop over carpets and empties its own dustbin into a bag in the dock. Here is what the main features mean for everyday use.

Dual rubber brushes

The S8+ uses what Roborock calls the DuoRoller Brush: two rubber rollers rather than a single bristle brush. Roborock says this improves pickup and leaves fewer hair tangles. In general, rubber rollers are easier to clear than bristle brushes, which is useful in homes with long hair. The brand says it works on hardwood, tile, carpets and rugs.

6000 Pa suction

Roborock rates the suction at 6000 Pa (HyperForce). Pascals measure suction pressure. Higher figures generally help with fine dust and debris in carpet pile, although brush design and airflow also matter.

The self-empty dock

With the RockDock Plus, the robot empties itself into a 2.5 L dust bag after cleaning. Roborock says the bag holds up to seven weeks of dirt and dust (the product title states 60 days), depending on how much you clean and how dirty your floors are. Bags need replacing when full.

VibraRise sonic mopping

The mopping system vibrates the mop pad up to 3,000 times per minute with 6N of constant downward pressure, according to Roborock, to loosen dried-on marks. The mop lifts automatically when the robot detects carpet, which is meant to keep carpets from getting damp. This is a mop-and-vacuum robot without an automatic mop-washing station, so the mop pad needs washing by hand.

Obstacle avoidance and mapping

The robot uses 3D structured light and infrared imaging to identify hazards on the floor in bright and dark rooms. It builds a 3D map of your home that you can annotate with furniture for more precise cleaning. As with any robot, it helps to clear loose cables and small items first.

App control

Using the Roborock app over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, you can see mopping and vacuuming routes and carpet locations, set schedules, and adjust suction power, vibration strength and water flow. You can also set No-Go Zones and Invisible Walls to keep it out of certain areas.

Size

The listing gives dimensions of 14.0 x 18.0 x 15.0 inches (about 36 x 46 x 38 cm) for the unit with its dock. Allow space for the dock with clearance on the sides and front, and a power outlet.

Who it suits

It suits homes with a mix of hard floors and carpet, and pets or long hair, where the owner wants emptying handled automatically and mopping done in the same pass.

What to check before you buy

  • Wi-Fi: the app connection uses 2.4GHz, so confirm your router supports it.
  • Dock position: pick a spot with a power outlet and open floor around it.
  • Floors and rugs: check how the robot handles thresholds, rug fringes and dark flooring.
  • Consumables: check dust bags, filters, brushes and mop pads, and how often they need replacing.
  • Mop upkeep: check how the mop pad and water tank are filled, removed and cleaned.
  • Clearance: check your furniture's height against the robot's height.
