The Roborock S4 Max is a robot vacuum that uses a spinning LiDAR sensor to map your home and clean it in planned rows. It has 2000Pa suction, adjustable through the Roborock app, and can keep maps for several floors. It is a vacuum only, with no mopping function listed.

How LiDAR navigation works

LiDAR measures distances with a laser, building a map of walls and furniture as the robot moves. Roborock says its low-light navigation stays precise in bright rooms and dark ones. Because the sensor does not rely on a camera, a robot like this typically works fine with the lights off, and cleans in tidy lines instead of bouncing at random.

Maps, zones and walls

The S4 Max can map up to four levels of a home and recognise rooms on each. On each level, Roborock lists up to 10 No-Go Zones, 10 No-Mop Zones and 10 Invisible Walls. No-go zones keep the robot out of areas such as pet bowls or cable clusters, and invisible walls block a doorway without a physical barrier.

What 2000Pa suction means

Pascals (Pa) measure suction pressure. At 2000Pa, Roborock says the robot picks up finer dirt from hard floors and reaches deeper into carpets. When it identifies carpet, it boosts suction to its maximum level. Real results depend on the floor type, the dirt and the brush condition, but higher Pa generally means a stronger pull.

Runtime and coverage

Roborock lists up to 180 minutes of runtime and a cleaning area of up to 3230 sq ft (about 300 square metres) on a charge. The robot measures about 18.9 x 6.0 x 18.8 inches in its packaging and weighs 7.3 lb (about 3.3 kg).

App control and Wi-Fi

In the Roborock app you can view the exact cleaning routes, see where carpets are, set schedules and adjust suction power, vibration strength and cleaning order. The robot works only with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, so if your router combines bands you may need to set up on 2.4GHz.

Air filter

The robot has an E11-rated air filter. Roborock says it captures 95% of particles as the robot travels, and that the filter is washable and reusable. Filters and brushes typically still need regular cleaning and eventual replacement.

Who it suits

It suits households with hard floors and some carpet, pets, or several floors, where scheduled hands-off vacuuming helps. It is less suited to anyone who wants mopping included.

What to check before you buy

  • Availability and model: the listing notes the S4 Max is out of stock from that seller and points to the Q5 and Q5+ as upgraded versions. Check current models and support.
  • Wi-Fi: confirm your router offers a 2.4GHz network.
  • Floor clutter: loose cables and small objects can still snag a robot vacuum.
  • Thresholds and rugs: check the climbing ability against your floors.
  • Upkeep: plan to empty the bin, wash the filter and clean the brush regularly.
  • Dock space: leave a clear, open spot for charging.
