The Roborock Q5 DuoRoller+ is a robot vacuum that comes with a self-empty dock. It maps your home with a spinning laser, vacuums on a schedule or on command, and returns to the dock, which pulls the dust out of its bin into a bag. The aim is to reduce how often you handle dust.

How the self-empty dock works

After cleaning, the robot docks and a motor in the base draws the contents of the 770 ml onboard bin into a disposable dust bag. Roborock supplies 2 x 2.5 L bags and says this allows up to seven weeks of hands-free cleaning. The real interval depends on how much dirt and hair your home produces. A sealed bag also means less dust escapes when you dispose of it.

Suction and the DuoRoller brush

Roborock rates the Q5 DuoRoller+ at 5,500 Pa of HyperForce suction, and describes it as suited to hardwood, tile and carpet. Pascals are only a general guide; brush design affects results as much. The DuoRoller uses two rubber rollers meeting in the middle, which Roborock says picks up pet and human hair while reducing tangles. Rubber rollers generally tangle less than bristle brushes, though hair still needs occasional clearing.

LiDAR navigation and mapping

The PreciSense LiDAR system uses a laser to measure distances and build a map. Roborock says it supports quick mapping and multi-level mapping, so the robot can keep maps for more than one floor. A LiDAR robot generally cleans in neat rows and works in the dark, unlike many camera-based models. Maps are managed in the app, where you can usually set schedules and zones.

Runtime and coverage

Roborock lists a maximum run time of 240 minutes and a maximum area of 3,767 square feet on one charge. Those are the maximum figures, under the lowest suction setting, and running at higher power will shorten them.

App and voice control

The robot works with the Roborock app and with Alexa, Apple Siri and Google Home. You can start cleaning or change settings by voice or from your phone.

Size

It measures about 13.9 x 13.8 x 3.8 inches (35 x 35 x 9.7 cm), and the listing gives a weight of 16 lb (about 7.3 kg), which likely includes the dock. At under four inches tall, it may fit under some furniture, so measure clearance.

Who it suits

It suits homes with pets or long hair, people who want daily vacuuming without much attention, and those who prefer to empty a bag every few weeks. It is a vacuum only; the listing does not mention mopping.

What to check before you buy

  • Flooring: confirm the robot handles your carpet pile and any thresholds.
  • Clearance: measure furniture heights and look for cables or small objects on the floor.
  • Dock space: the dock needs a wall-side spot with room around it and a power outlet.
  • Bags and parts: check how replacement bags, filters and brushes are supplied.
  • Wi-Fi: the app and voice features require a home network.
