The RENPHO Elis 2X (model R-A018) is a slim, square Bluetooth bathroom scale that measures weight and estimates body composition. It connects to the Renpho Health app, where readings are stored and charted over time. It's for people who want to follow trends in their numbers instead of a single reading.

What the scale shows

RENPHO says the display shows seven key metrics when you step on: body weight, water percentage, muscle mass, BMI, bone mass, body fat and metabolic age. The app expands this to 13 metrics, with long-term trends and customizable weight or body fat goals.

Scales like this typically estimate body composition by passing a very small electrical current through the feet and using the resistance, together with your profile details, in a formula. These figures are estimates and are best used to see direction over weeks, rather than as exact values. Weighing at a similar time of day under similar conditions generally makes trends easier to read.

Surface and precision

The scale has an ITO-coated surface, which RENPHO says improves measurement accuracy compared with regular four-electrode scales. ITO (indium tin oxide) is a transparent conductive coating. RENPHO lists accuracy down to 0.05 kg / 0.2 lb. The platform is 11 x 11 inches, under an inch thick, and the scale weighs 2.8 lb. It supports up to 180 kg (400 lb).

App and sharing

The Renpho Health app syncs with Apple Health, Samsung Health and MyFitnessPal. RENPHO lists unlimited user profiles for a household, plus modes for babies and pets and an athlete mode. It connects over Bluetooth, so you'll need a compatible phone.

Using it well

RENPHO's notes say it's a fragile precision device: don't jump on it, stomp on it or take it apart. Use it on a solid, flat, dry surface and don't stand on the edges. For body-composition readings, bare feet are needed so the electrodes can make contact.

The brand also advises that anyone who may be pregnant, or who has osteoporosis, a pacemaker, artificial joints, a portable ECG or other implanted metal devices, should use the scale for weight only and wear shoes. Check the manual and speak to a doctor if you have any questions about that.

Who it suits

It suits households that want shared tracking with separate profiles, and people who already use Apple Health, Samsung Health or MyFitnessPal and want data to flow there. It's a general-purpose home scale and not a substitute for medical advice or equipment.

What to check before you buy

  • Phone compatibility: confirm your phone and operating system work with the app.
  • Floor: use a hard, flat surface; carpet can affect readings.
  • Weight limit: it is rated to 180 kg (400 lb).
  • Implants and pregnancy: read the brand's guidance above and the manual.
  • Barefoot use: body composition readings need bare feet.
  • Batteries and setup: check the manual for what powers it and how to pair it.
