The Etekcity EB4887S is a digital bathroom scale with a tempered glass platform and a large backlit display. It weighs up to 400 lbs (180 kg), runs on batteries and switches on as soon as you step onto it. It is a simple, single-purpose scale for reading body weight at home.
Four sensors and a 0.2 lb step
Etekcity says the scale uses four precision sensors to measure weight. Spreading the measurement across several sensors is a common approach in bathroom scales, and it typically helps the reading stay consistent wherever you stand. The listed range is 11 lb to 400 lb (5 to 180 kg), with increments of 0.2 lb or 0.1 kg.
An increment is the smallest change the display can show, not a guarantee of accuracy. Any bathroom scale can vary a little with surface and position.
A display that is easy to read
The display is a 3.2-inch LCD with large white numbers on a blue backlight, which Etekcity says stays readable even in a dark bathroom. The surface is smooth, so it wipes clean easily.
Everyday operation
Etekcity lists automatic functions that keep use simple:
- Instant readings as soon as you step on.
- Auto-off, auto-zero and auto-calibration.
- Low battery and overload indicators.
- A single button to change between pounds and kilograms.
For consistent readings, the brand's instructions are to step on until the display lights, step off until it shows "0.0", and then weigh. It also suggests weighing at the same time of day, with minimal clothing, to reduce variation between readings.
Glass, corners and power
The platform is 6 mm tempered glass. Etekcity says the rounded corners are designed to make the scale scratch- and shatter-resistant. Tempered glass is generally stronger than ordinary glass, but a scale still belongs on a hard, level floor. The scale takes three AAA batteries, which are included, and measures 11.8 in x 11.8 in x 0.9 in (about 30 x 30 x 2.3 cm) and 11.2 lb (about 5 kg).
What it does not do
The listing describes weight measurement only. It does not describe an app, Bluetooth or body-composition readings, so treat it as a plain weight scale.
What to check before you buy
- Confirm the 400 lb (180 kg) capacity covers everyone who will use it.
- Check you have a hard, flat floor; carpet can affect readings on most scales.
- Decide whether a plain weight-only scale is enough, or whether you want smart features.
- Note the listing says the information is per pack, so check how many scales come in the box.
- Keep spare AAA batteries nearby for when the low battery indicator appears.
- Check the 11.8 in square footprint fits your space.
