The Kesnos PD10A-80 is a large-capacity dehumidifier for rooms and basements that feel damp. It is rated at 80 pints per day and covers up to 5,000 square feet, according to Kesnos, with a front display, a built-in timer and a hose for draining without emptying the tank by hand. This page covers what the figures mean and what to check.
What "80 pints" and "5,000 sq ft" mean
The pint figure is the amount of moisture the unit can remove in a day under test conditions. Kesnos states 80 pints at 95°F and 90% relative humidity, a deliberately damp, warm test. Real rooms are usually cooler and drier, so day-to-day removal is typically lower than the headline number. The 5,000 sq ft coverage figure is the brand's figure; it works best in an open space without many closed-off rooms.
Humidity range and modes
You can set a target humidity from 30% to 80% RH. Kesnos says its lower setting goes below that of most household dehumidifiers. There are three modes, Drying, Continuous and Standard. In general, a continuous mode runs without stopping at the target, a standard mode cycles to hold a set level, and a drying mode is useful for laundry or wet spaces. Check the manual for how each one behaves.
The unit stops automatically when the target is reached and, according to Kesnos, resumes after a power cut thanks to a power-off memory function.
Display, timer and lock
A front display shows humidity readings. A 24-hour timer lets you schedule on and off times, and a control lock prevents accidental setting changes.
ENERGY STAR and noise
Kesnos lists the model as meeting the 2024 ENERGY STAR standard, which sets energy-efficiency criteria for dehumidifiers. It rates operation at about 45 dB, which it compares to a quiet library or white noise. A decibel figure from the maker depends on conditions, so expect more sound at higher fan speeds.
Draining
There are two ways to handle the water. The 1.42-gallon tank can be emptied by hand, or the 6.6 ft hose can drain continuously to a floor drain or sump. A garden hose can also be connected, but it is not included. Continuous draining suits basements, where no one wants to carry a full tank up the stairs.
Moving it around
The unit weighs 29.3 lb (about 13 kg) and measures 9.6 x 13.8 x 19.7 inches (24 x 35 x 50 cm). It has 360° casters, a hidden handle and a concealed cord organizer.
Who it suits
It suits basements, large living spaces, crawl-space-adjacent rooms, workshops and laundry rooms where moisture lingers. It is a lot of capacity for a small bedroom, where a smaller unit may be enough.
What to check before you buy
- Room size and dampness: match the capacity to the space; oversized units cycle off often.
- Drain route: check that the hose can slope downward to a drain, since gravity does the work.
- Operating temperature: read the manual for the temperature range the unit works in, as compressor dehumidifiers perform less well in cold spaces.
- Filter care: find out how the air filter is cleaned and how often.
- Placement: leave space around the unit for airflow and keep doors and windows closed.
- Warranty and support: read the stated service and support terms.
