The WOLFBOX G900 Tripro is a mirror dash cam that records three views at once: the road ahead, the road behind and the inside of the cabin. It replaces or covers the rear-view mirror with a wide screen and pairs it with a phone app for reviewing footage. This page explains what its main specs mean and what to confirm before choosing it.

Three channels explained

The front camera records 4K (3840 x 2160) at 30 frames per second, the rear camera records 2.5K (2560 x 1440) at 30fps, and the cabin camera records 1080p. A "channel" is simply one camera stream saved to the card. A cabin camera is typically used by drivers who carry passengers for work, or who want a record of what happens inside the vehicle. Check local rules on recording people inside a vehicle.

The sensors: STARVIS 2 and a large rear sensor

The front camera uses Sony's STARVIS 2 IMX678 sensor. WOLFBOX says it has a larger light-gathering area, better low-light performance and wider dynamic range than earlier designs. In general, a bigger sensor and bigger pixels collect more light, which tends to give cleaner night footage with less noise. The rear camera has a 1/1.88-inch sensor with 2.9μm pixels, and WOLFBOX says its Purecel Plus technology improves night vision.

5.8GHz WiFi and the app

The 5.8GHz band typically gives faster transfer speeds and less interference than 2.4GHz, which matters when moving large 4K files. Through the WOLFBOX app you can view live footage, replay recordings and share video from your phone. Because the connection is local, you normally need to be near the car.

Voice control

You can tell the camera to start recording or take photos, so you don't have to look at the screen or touch it while driving. Voice systems vary in how well they pick up commands over road and cabin noise, so it is worth reading the manual for the supported commands.

Supercapacitor and parking monitor

The unit uses a supercapacitor instead of a battery. Supercapacitors generally tolerate extreme heat and cold better than lithium batteries, which matters for a device sitting behind glass in the sun. A parking monitor can record around the vehicle when it is parked, but the listing notes that the required hardware kit is sold separately.

Storage and support

A 256GB card is pre-installed, so the camera can record straight away. Triple-channel 4K footage fills a card faster than a single-channel unit, so loop recording, which overwrites the oldest files, is normally how these devices are used. WOLFBOX lists a 12-month guarantee and says customer support is available.

Size

The mirror measures roughly 12.0 inches wide and 3.0 inches tall, and weighs 2.7 lb. Check that it will fit your vehicle's existing mirror and not block the view.

Who it suits

It suits drivers who want front, rear and cabin recording from one device, and those who like to manage footage from their phone. A single-camera unit may be enough for anyone who only needs a front view.

What to check before you buy

  • Fit: confirm the mirror's strap or clip mount suits your vehicle's mirror.
  • Cabling: three cameras need routed cables, so check cable lengths for your vehicle, including trucks and SUVs.
  • Parking mode: the hardware kit is a separate purchase, and it needs a suitable fuse-box connection.
  • Privacy and rules: check local rules on cabin recording and on windscreen-mounted devices.
  • Storage: know how many hours the included card holds at your chosen settings.
  • Phone: check which phones and app versions the app supports.
