The VEVOR ZM2003 is a portable 2kW diesel air heater that runs from a 12V or 24V supply. It is aimed at people who need warmth where there is no mains heating: vehicles, cabins, garages and campsites. This page covers what the specifications mean and what to think about before using one.

How a diesel air heater works

A diesel air heater burns a small, metered amount of diesel in a sealed combustion chamber and passes the heat to air that is blown into the space. The exhaust is carried away separately, typically through a pipe that must vent outside. This is different from a flame heater that burns fuel in the room. VEVOR says the body is cast aluminum with a ceramic igniter, and quotes combustion efficiency of 90% or more.

What 2kW and the fuel figures mean

The heater is rated at 2kW of output, which is a size commonly used for vans, small RVs, cabins and workshops. VEVOR lists consumption of 0.18 to 0.35 litres of diesel per hour and says it uses about one gallon per night to keep a large area warm. Actual use depends on the heat setting, outside temperature and how well the space is insulated.

Power supply options

The heater is described as DC 12-24V compatible, with two wiring options: an adapter and a direct DC 12V connection. VEVOR lists vehicle batteries, outlets and outdoor power stations as sources, and names cars, RVs, trucks, tractors, garages, cabins and camping as uses. The pump and fan draw current, so battery capacity matters for overnight use.

Safety features

VEVOR lists a built-in CO alarm that monitors carbon monoxide and can alert you or shut the heater off. It also lists a leak-proof fuel tank cap, a fuel level indicator and overheat protection. These are useful additions, but they do not replace good installation. Any fuel-burning heater needs a correctly sealed exhaust that vents outside, a proper fuel supply and enough clearance from anything flammable. Follow the manual and local codes, and consider a separate CO alarm in sleeping areas.

Noise

VEVOR says a muffler and a redesigned fuel pump keep operation at 75dB or below. That is a rated maximum, and the clicking of the fuel pump is a normal sound on diesel heaters of this type.

Controls

There are three ways to control it: a Bluetooth app, a remote control and a display panel. The app lets you adjust temperature settings and monitor the heater from a phone.

Size and weight

The unit measures about 15.4 x 13.4 x 7.9 inches (39 x 34 x 20 cm) and weighs 14.3 lb (about 6.5 kg), so it can be moved, though it is not a pocket-sized camping item.

Who it suits

It suits people heating a van, RV, truck cab, workshop, cabin or tent-camping setup where fuel and a small battery are easier to arrange than mains power, and who are comfortable installing a vented heater.

What to check before you buy

  • Space and heat need: confirm 2kW matches the size and insulation of your space.
  • Exhaust and intake routing: plan a sealed exhaust that vents outside, away from windows and vents.
  • Power: check battery or power station capacity for overnight running.
  • Fuel: confirm where the tank sits and how you will refill it.
  • Altitude and cold: check the manual for operating limits.
  • Upkeep: read the manual on cleaning, parts and storage.
  • Rules: check any local rules on fuel-burning heaters in vehicles.
