The VEVOR 12V 5KW Diesel Air Heater is a compact heater for small enclosed spaces such as campers, RVs, trailers, boats and cars. It burns diesel from its own 5-litre tank and runs from a 12-volt supply. VEVOR calls it an all-in-one, installation-free unit, with heater and tank in one body.

What the 5 kW figure means

Heater power is given as 5 kW at 12 V. VEVOR gives an applicable range of 161 to 215 square feet (15 to 20 m²). Real results depend on insulation, outside temperature, windows and how much air leaks, so treat the figure as a guide. Diesel air heaters typically blow hot air through a duct, rather than heating water or air in the room directly. VEVOR says its sandblasted aluminium heat exchanger brings the space up to a comfortable temperature within about 10 minutes.

Controls: app, remote and LCD

You can control the heater in three ways. A Bluetooth app can start preheating from up to 98 feet (30 m) away. A remote control works up to 32 feet (10 m). And the LCD panel gives local control. The temperature can be set between 8°C and 36°C (46.4°F to 96.8°F). VEVOR also lists a timer, constant-temperature control, preheating and voice announcements.

Fuel use and run time

VEVOR says the fuel pump is precise and low-noise, with a consumption range of 0.16 to 0.52 L per hour, and about a gallon per night. The 5 L (1.3 gal) tank is rated for up to 10 hours of continuous heat. Consumption depends on the heat setting, so lower settings should use less fuel.

Altitude compensation

At altitude, thinner air changes the fuel-to-air balance in any burner. VEVOR says automatic altitude compensation adjusts the heater's operation, and that it suits altitudes up to 18,045 feet (5,500 m), with no manual adjustment.

Protection features

Overheat protection is listed at 270°C (518°F) or above. VEVOR describes a high safety system for use in cars, RVs and ships. Any fuel-burning heater needs correct exhaust routing and fresh air, so follow the manual and local codes. Never run one in a sealed space without the proper ventilation and exhaust the manual specifies, and consider a carbon monoxide alarm in the living area.

Size and weight

It measures about 15 x 5.9 x 16.1 inches (38 x 15 x 41 cm) and weighs 18.3 lb (8.3 kg).

Who it suits

It suits campers, van and RV owners and boaters who want a self-contained, low-power heater that runs on diesel from a 12 V supply, with phone or remote control.

What to check before you buy

  • Space size: compare 15-20 m² with your vehicle or cabin and its insulation.
  • Mounting and exhaust: check how and where the heater, exhaust and air intake are placed, per the manual.
  • Power supply: confirm that your 12 V battery and wiring can supply the starting current.
  • Fuel: check which diesel the manual allows and how to keep and handle it.
  • Noise and upkeep: check how loud it runs, and how to maintain the glow plug and burner.

The short version

  • A 12 V, 5 kW all-in-one diesel air heater with a 5 L tank.
  • Bluetooth app (98 ft), 32 ft remote and LCD control; 8-36°C range.
  • Fuel use of 0.16 to 0.52 L/h; up to 10 hours per tank, by VEVOR's figures.
  • Automatic altitude compensation up to 5,500 m.
  • Overheat protection; follow the manual and local codes for ventilation and exhaust.
