The VEVOR XJC-080-4 is a set of four steel wheel dollies. Each one cradles a tyre so a vehicle can be rolled sideways or turned in a tight space, without the engine running. They are useful in a crowded garage, a workshop or a storage area where a car, trailer or boat needs to be repositioned by hand.
How a wheel dolly set works
You raise one corner of the vehicle with a jack, slide a dolly under the tyre and lower the tyre onto it. Repeat for all four wheels, and the vehicle sits on casters that turn in any direction. VEVOR says the whole process takes about 10 minutes and doesn't need a helper. A set of four allows the vehicle to be pushed sideways, which isn't possible on its own wheels.
Capacity
VEVOR rates each dolly at 1,500 lb, and the four-piece set at 6,000 lb (2,722 kg). The platform is made of one-piece thickened steel panels, which the brand says resist bending, even with heavy SUVs. Because the load is shared among four dollies, check the weight of your vehicle, including any trailer or boat, against the stated capacity, and keep in mind that weight is rarely split evenly between wheels.
Platform and tyre width
The platform is concave, with a dense diamond pattern that VEVOR says grips the tyre and cuts the risk of slipping. It accepts tyres up to 12 inches (305 mm) wide. The brand lists family cars, large SUVs, pickups, ATVs, tractors, trailers, motorcycles and boats as possible uses, subject to the tyre width and weight capacity.
Casters and braking
Each dolly has 3-inch rolling-bearing universal casters and locking casters. A foot brake locks the dolly in place, which is helpful when you are performing maintenance on the vehicle or want it to stay put once moved. Small casters work best on smooth, level surfaces like sealed concrete, and rough or sloped floors make a heavy load harder to control.
Handle and storage
Each dolly has a handle so you can carry it, or hang it in a garage or take it in a car boot. The size of one dolly is about 15.2 x 11.8 x 4.3 inches. The full set weighs 56 lb (about 25 kg) in total.
Using dollies safely
Support the vehicle with a rated jack and stands while placing dollies, and follow the manual. Chock any wheels still on the ground when appropriate, and move the vehicle slowly with a helper watching for obstacles. Do not leave a vehicle on dollies on a slope.
Who it suits
It suits home garage owners with tight parking, car hobbyists who need to shuffle project cars, and anyone moving trailers, ATVs or motorcycles around a workshop. People who only need to change tyres occasionally may not need a full set of four.
What to check before you buy
- Vehicle weight: compare with the 1,500 lb per dolly and 6,000 lb set capacity.
- Tyre width: confirm your tyres are no wider than 12 inches.
- Floor: check that your floor is smooth, flat and clean.
- Jack: you need a jack with enough reach and capacity.
- Space: make sure there is room to turn the vehicle and a clear path.
