The VEVOR TB17-1B is a lockable aluminium storage box for the underside of a truck, van or trailer. It adds a place for tools, recovery gear or camping equipment without using space in the cab or bed. VEVOR also says it can be mounted elsewhere, such as the back of a camper or a pickup rack.

Size and capacity

The box measures 24 x 17 x 18 inches (about 61 x 43 x 46 cm) and weighs 16.1 lb (7.3 kg). That is roughly 4 to 4.5 cubic feet of space before the walls are accounted for. It is mid-sized: enough for a socket set, jumper cables, straps and a small tool roll, but not for long items. Measure what you plan to carry before deciding.

Aluminium diamond plate

The box is made of aluminium alloy with a tread, or diamond plate, pattern. Aluminium does not rust the way steel does and is light, which matters under a vehicle. VEVOR says the thick panels and raised pattern stand up to scratching and damage on the road. The raised pattern also hides marks well.

Seal against water

A rubber sealing strip closes around the lid. VEVOR says this stops water from seeping in, to protect contents from rust and corrosion. Seals reduce splash and rain, but they are not a guarantee against submersion, and a box underneath a vehicle sees plenty of spray. It makes sense to keep tools in bags or wraps.

Latch and lock

The T-shaped handle is recessed, so it has no protruding part to catch on debris or be hit while driving. The box locks and comes with two keys. A lock deters casual theft but is not a safe, so keep high-value items elsewhere.

Mounting

VEVOR says the box fits under trucks and trailers, as well as in other locations. Mounting hardware and methods differ by vehicle, so check the manual for what the kit includes and what the frame can carry. Underbody mounting needs good ground clearance, and the box should not interfere with the exhaust, fuel lines or suspension.

Who it suits

It suits truck, van and trailer owners who want extra tool or gear storage, and campers or contractors who need to keep equipment out of the cab and out of sight.

What to check before you buy

  • Fit: measure the frame rails and the space under your vehicle, including ground clearance.
  • Mounting points: confirm what hardware is supplied and whether you need extra bolts or brackets.
  • Load: a full box can be heavy; stay within your vehicle's and the mounts' limits.
  • Heat and moving parts: keep the box clear of the exhaust, fuel lines, driveshaft and suspension.
  • Contents: pack heavy items low and secure them so they do not shift.
  • Local rules: some places have rules about equipment hanging under vehicles.
