The VEVOR NLS35 is a portable 12-volt compressor fridge-freezer with a 25-litre (26.4 qt) dual-zone interior. It is meant for cars, trucks, vans, RVs, boats and campsites, and it also plugs into mains power at home. Here is what the specs mean and what to check for a trip.

Capacity in practice

VEVOR says the 25 L interior holds 30 cans of 330 ml drink, 23 bottles of 550 ml water or three 750 ml wine bottles, with room for snacks, meat and seafood. That suits a day out, a weekend trip or a couple travelling, rather than a large family for a week. As always, mixed loads with odd shapes hold fewer items than the can-count suggests.

Compressor cooling and temperature range

The NLS35 uses compressor cooling, the same principle as a household fridge. That differs from thermoelectric coolers, which only cool to a set amount below the surrounding temperature. A compressor unit can usually freeze as well as chill. Temperature is adjustable from -20°C to 20°C (-4°F to 68°F), so it can work as a freezer or fridge.

VEVOR says it reaches the -20°C (-4°F) shutdown point in about 1.5 hours at 77°F ambient. It also says the fridge runs normally when tilted up to 45 degrees, which matters on uneven ground or in a moving vehicle.

Dual zone

Dual-zone means the interior is split into two compartments. In most designs of this type, each compartment can be set separately, so one side can freeze while the other keeps drinks chilled. Check in the manual how the zones are controlled and whether they are fully independent.

Controls and Bluetooth

An LED control panel shows the operating status and sets the temperature. Bluetooth lets you connect to a mobile app for remote control, handy when the fridge is in a boot or under a seat.

Noise and power use

VEVOR rates noise at 45 dB or less, about the level of a quiet room, which matters when sleeping in a van or tent near the fridge. The ECO mode keeps the operating power under 41W, and MAX mode is rated at 46W, with consumption under 1 kWh per day. For vehicle use, the main concern is the battery: a fridge running overnight draws from your car's battery or a portable power station, so check low-voltage protection in the manual.

Power options

The unit comes with 12/24V DC and 100-240V AC adapters, so it works in cars, trucks, boats and RVs, as well as at home.

Size and weight

It measures about 24.3 x 14.6 x 14.8 inches and weighs 27.3 lb, so check that it fits the boot or cargo area and that you can lift it empty.

Who it suits

It suits campers, road-trippers, van and RV owners, boat users and anyone who wants cold storage that doesn't rely on ice. It is bulkier than a cool box, so day-trippers with small loads might not need it.

What to check before you buy

  • Space: measure the area where it will sit, with room for ventilation around the compressor.
  • Power supply: confirm that your vehicle outlet or power station supports the draw.
  • Battery protection: check the cut-off setting to avoid draining a starter battery.
  • Mounting: secure it in a moving vehicle.
  • Capacity: compare 25 L to what you actually carry.
  • Phone support: check which phones the app supports.
