The VEVOR B58 is a portable compressor refrigerator and freezer that runs from a vehicle's 12V or 24V socket or from household power. It is meant for road trips, camping, boating and RV use, where a cooler with ice would be messy or short-lived, and it also works at home.
Capacity and the two zones
The B58 holds 58 litres (61.5 US quarts). VEVOR says that is room for up to 94 cans of 330 ml cola, 34 bottles of 550 ml water or 22 bottles of 750 ml wine, depending on how you pack it. It has a dual-zone design, which generally means two compartments that can be set to different temperatures, so one side can be a freezer while the other stays at refrigerator temperature.
Compressor cooling
Compressor fridges cool the way a home refrigerator does, rather than using the thermoelectric method of many basic cool boxes. In general this lets them reach lower temperatures and hold them even when it's warm outside. VEVOR says the B58 reaches -20°C (-4°F) in about two hours at 77°F ambient. It also says it operates at up to a 45° tilt, which matters on uneven campsites or on a boat.
Temperature control and power modes
The LED control panel lets you read the status and set the temperature anywhere from -20°C to 20°C (-4°F to 68°F). Two modes can be switched from the panel. ECO uses less than 54W, while MAX is rated at 71W. VEVOR says that in MAX mode the fridge stays under 1 kWh per day. Lower power draw matters when running from a vehicle battery or a portable power station, since a fridge that cycles continuously will draw down a small battery over time.
VEVOR rates noise at 45 dB or less, which is about the level of a quiet room.
Home and vehicle use
The B58 includes two sets of adapters: 110/240V AC for the wall and 12/24V DC for vehicles. Durable wheels and a telescopic handle make it easier to move when loaded. The listing gives 29.6 x 22.0 x 18.1 inches and 50.7 lb, so it's a sizeable item. Check that it fits in your vehicle with the lid able to open.
Who it suits
It suits travellers who spend days away from shore power, RV and van owners, boaters, and campers who want to keep frozen and chilled food separate. It can also act as an extra fridge at home.
What to check before you buy
- Space: measure your boot, cabin or cabinet for the 29.6 x 22.0 x 18.1 inch body, plus ventilation room.
- Power source: confirm your vehicle's socket output, and consider battery protection or a separate battery for long stops.
- Weight: it's 50.7 lb empty, so plan for lifting it when loaded.
- Packing needs: compare the 58 L capacity with how many people and days you cater for.
- Voltage: check which adapter you need at each location.
- Upkeep: follow the manual for cleaning, defrosting and drainage.
