The VEVOR EV-B06-US003A is a portable electric vehicle charger that works on either a 120V or a 240V supply, up to 16 amps. It has an SAE J1772 connector, a 28-foot cable and app control, and it can be used on the go or fixed to a garage wall. Here is what the specs mean and what to confirm before relying on it.
Level 1 and Level 2 explained
Level 1 charging uses a standard 120V household outlet and delivers the slowest charge rate. Level 2 uses 240V and is generally considerably faster. This unit supports both: VEVOR lists compatibility with NEMA 6-20 and NEMA 5-15 plugs, and the package includes the NEMA 5-15 adapter. Charging speed ultimately depends on the supply voltage, the 16A limit and what your vehicle's onboard charger accepts.
J1772 compatibility
SAE J1772 is the common connector standard for most electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids in North America. VEVOR says the charger suits most vehicles that follow it. Some makes use other connectors, so check your vehicle's inlet.
App control and scheduling
A smartphone app lets you control and monitor the charging status remotely. You can also schedule charging for 1 to 12 hours, which VEVOR says allows you to take advantage of off-peak electricity periods. Whether off-peak rates exist depends on your utility.
The 28-foot cable
The 28-foot length helps when the vehicle is parked some distance from the outlet. VEVOR describes internal copper wires, a thickened flame-retardant TPE outer jacket, and an IP66 protection class for dust and water, with an operating range of -30°C to 45°C. IP66 describes the cable's protection level; follow the manual for use in rain and for connector care.
Protective functions
During charging, the controller adjusts current based on the charging status. VEVOR lists protection against lightning, leakage, grounding faults, over-voltage, under-voltage, overcharge, over-current and overheating. As with any charging equipment, follow the manual and local electrical codes.
Fixed or portable
The package includes a hard-shell storage bag, a base, a cable hook and an adapter. With the base and charger holder you can install it as a fixed station in a garage, or pack the cable into the bag and carry it. The unit measures about 13.0 x 13.0 x 6.7 inches (33 x 33 x 17 cm) and weighs 7.0 lb (about 3.2 kg).
Who it suits
It suits owners who want one charger for home and travel, or who want a plug-in alternative to a hard-wired wall unit.
What to check before you buy
- Outlet and circuit: confirm the outlet type and that the circuit is rated for 16A continuous use; have an electrician check if unsure.
- Plug type: the charger accepts NEMA 6-20 and 5-15; make sure your outlet matches.
- Vehicle inlet: check that your vehicle uses a J1772 connector.
- Cable reach: measure from the outlet to the charging port.
- App and connectivity: check phone compatibility and wireless coverage where you park.
