The VEVOR GS120C-4 is a small, automatic battery charger and maintainer with four independent 2A outputs. It is meant for people who look after several batteries at once, such as in a garage with a car, a motorcycle, a mower and a boat. It charges and then holds batteries on a float charge. VEVOR notes that it is not a jump starter.
What 2A x 4 means
The charger is rated at 2 amps on each of four outputs, so it can charge four batteries at the same time. A 2A current is gentle. It is a good fit for maintenance charging and topping up smaller batteries, but a large, deeply drained battery will take a long time to charge at that rate. As a rough rule, charging time is the battery's amp-hour capacity divided by the charge current, plus some extra, so the manual's guidance on suitable battery sizes is worth reading.
Battery types
According to VEVOR, the charger works with 6V and 12V lead-acid batteries, including flooded, AGM, gel and SLA types, as well as LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) batteries. LiFePO4 batteries need a different charging profile from lead-acid, which is why the charger is described as having separate modes. Always select the mode that matches the battery chemistry and voltage.
VEVOR lists use with cars, trucks, SUVs, motorcycles, lawn mowers, boats and deep-cycle batteries such as those in golf carts.
Fully automatic charging and float mode
The unit moves automatically from full charging to float mode. In general, float mode keeps a small current flowing to offset self-discharge, which is useful for vehicles and equipment stored over winter. VEVOR also mentions a repair function for ageing lead-acid batteries during charging.
Low-voltage and supply mode
VEVOR says the charger can start with batteries as low as 1V. A supply mode lets you manually start charging a deeply discharged battery from zero volts. Deeply discharged batteries can be damaged or unsuitable for charging, so check the manual and the battery maker's guidance first.
Protection and thermal compensation
The listing names five protections: over-current, short-circuit, reverse-polarity, overheat and over-voltage. It also describes thermal compensation, which adjusts charging current and voltage with temperature. Batteries generally need different charging voltages in cold and hot conditions, so this is a useful feature in unheated garages. Connect clamps by the manual's order and never reverse them on purpose.
Size, mounting and what's included
The charger measures about 7.1 x 6.3 x 2.6 inches (18 x 16 x 6.6 cm) and weighs 2.3 lb (about 1 kg). A swivel hook allows it to hang from a wall stud. The package includes eight copper wire terminals, eight battery clamps and a 4 ft (1.2 m) figure-eight power cord.
Who it suits
It suits households and small workshops with multiple seasonal vehicles or equipment, and anyone who stores batteries over long periods. A single large vehicle battery that needs a quick charge, or an engine that needs jump-starting, is better matched to a higher-current charger or a jump starter.
What to check before you buy
- Battery chemistry and voltage: confirm that each battery is 6V or 12V and one of the listed types.
- Battery size: compare the 2A output with your battery capacity and your patience.
- Cable reach: four outputs spread over a distance may need the batteries close together.
- Power plug: check that the figure-eight cord suits your outlet.
- Ventilation: charge in a well-ventilated area, as the manual describes.
- Not a jump starter: it does not crank an engine.
