The ECO-WORTHY 55A inverter charger puts two jobs into one box. It charges a 12V LiFePO4 battery from mains power, and it turns that battery's 12V DC into 110V AC to run appliances. It is aimed at RVs, boats, cars, off-grid setups and houses where a battery bank is used as backup.

Charger and inverter in one

ECO-WORTHY lists a 55A charging capability for 12V LiFePO4 batteries and a 1000W continuous inverter output, with a 2000W peak. Peak figures cover short surges, such as the start-up of a motor, whereas the 1000W figure is what it supplies continuously. ECO-WORTHY mentions appliances such as microwaves and refrigerators, so check each appliance's rated power and start-up surge against the inverter's limits.

Pure sine wave

Pure sine wave output matches the smooth waveform of household mains power. It is typically gentler on sensitive electronics and motors than modified sine wave. ECO-WORTHY says it gives stable, efficient output.

UPS switchover

If mains power fails, the unit switches to battery power within 20 milliseconds, according to ECO-WORTHY, so connected equipment keeps running. Whether a particular device rides through a 20 ms switch depends on the device, so check this if you plan to use it with a computer or other critical equipment.

Charging LiFePO4 batteries

The charger can start charging from 0V, which ECO-WORTHY says helps wake up BMS-protected lithium batteries that have shut off after being drained. It uses three-stage charging followed by trickle charging to maintain battery health. Only use it with a battery type and voltage it is made for, and follow the battery maker's charging limits.

Protections and indicators

Listed protections include high and low voltage, overload, overcurrent, overtemperature and output short circuit. LED indicators show error conditions, and a buzzer sounds an alarm. A cooling fan switches on when the temperature is above 45°C or the AC current is above 2.5A (RMS).

Size

The unit measures 3.9 x 13.2 x 8.4 inches (about 10 x 34 x 21 cm) and weighs 6.9 lb (about 3.1 kg).

Who it suits

It suits owners of RVs, boats and off-grid cabins with a 12V lithium battery bank, and anyone who wants a backup power source for a few household appliances.

What to check before you buy

  • Battery: confirm that you have a 12V LiFePO4 battery and that it can supply the current involved.
  • Appliance load: add up running and start-up wattage of what you plan to connect.
  • Wiring: use cable and fuses of the correct size, and follow the manual and local electrical codes. If in doubt, have a qualified electrician install it.
  • Ventilation: leave space around the unit for the fan.
  • Voltage: it outputs 110V, so check that this matches your equipment.
