The VEVOR 8KW diesel air heater is a 12V parking heater that burns diesel to warm the inside of a vehicle or small space. It is made for cars, RVs, trucks, boats, campervans and caravans, and VEVOR calls it the "plateau version", designed to keep working at altitude. It comes as an all-in-one unit with a single air outlet, an LCD switch and a remote control.
How a diesel air heater works
A diesel air heater draws a small amount of fuel through an oil pump into a combustion chamber, where it burns. Cabin air passes over a heat exchanger and is blown out warm, while exhaust gases are carried out through a separate pipe. VEVOR says the aluminium combustion chamber heats incoming air quickly and can raise the temperature of a vehicle interior within 10 minutes. It adds that the heater can also pre-heat the engine and clear frost from windows.
Power and fuel use
The listing gives 8kW heater power on a 12V supply. VEVOR states fuel consumption of 0.1 to 0.24 litres per hour (0.026 to 0.063 gallons per hour), and says that less than a gallon is needed for a night. The oil pump meters the fuel precisely, which VEVOR says gives full combustion and low vibration noise. Actual use depends on the setting and how cold it is.
Temperature range and altitude
VEVOR lists a working temperature for the heater of -40°C to +50°C (-104°F to +122°F), and for the oil pump of -40°C to +40°C. The highest working altitude is given as 5,500 metres, which is what the plateau version is for.
Controls and timer
You can start the heater and set the temperature, between 8°C and 35°C (46°F to 95°F), from the LCD panel or the remote control. VEVOR gives the remote's range as 30 metres (98 feet) and mentions a timing system, so you can warm the engine and cab before you open the door on a cold morning.
Size and weight
The listing gives dimensions of about 19.3 x 18.9 x 8.3 inches (49 x 48 x 21 cm), shipped weight about 18.8 lb (8.5 kg). VEVOR describes the design as compact and portable.
Installation and safety
A diesel heater burns fuel and produces exhaust, so correct installation matters. In general, the exhaust must be routed outside the vehicle and away from openings, the fuel supply must be fitted securely, and the cabin needs a working carbon monoxide alarm. Always follow the manual and your local codes and regulations for fuel-burning heaters in vehicles and boats.
Who it suits
It suits people who camp, travel or work in cold weather, drivers who want a warm cab, and owners of vans, caravans or boats who want a heat source that runs from the vehicle's battery and fuel.
What to check before you buy
- Voltage: confirm that your vehicle's electrical system is 12V.
- Fuel: it runs on diesel; confirm that you can draw from a suitable tank or separate container.
- Mounting space: check that there is room for the unit, the exhaust and the air outlet.
- Exhaust routing: plan where the exhaust exits, as the manual specifies.
- Upkeep: ask about cleaning, glow plugs and parts for later maintenance.
