The VEVOR 55L is a hard aluminum alloy top case that mounts to a motorcycle's rear rack. It gives a rider a lockable place to leave a helmet and small gear, and a backrest for a passenger. Here is what the specifications mean and what to check before fitting one.
What 55 litres holds
VEVOR says the case holds one helmet plus small riding gear such as gloves, a water bottle or an umbrella. That makes it a good size for commuting and day rides. Riders who want to carry two helmets or multi-day luggage typically look for a larger case, so it is worth measuring your helmet against the interior dimensions.
The case measures about 18.6 x 17.0 x 14.9 inches (roughly 47 x 43 x 38 cm) and weighs 15.8 lb (about 7.2 kg) empty.
Shell and weather resistance
The shell is aluminum alloy, which VEVOR says gives impact resistance and dust protection. The case has an IP55 protection class, which in general means protection against dust ingress and water jets from any direction. VEVOR describes this as handling light rain and daily wet conditions. For long, heavy downpours, it is sensible to pack delicate items in a waterproof bag inside the case.
Liner, backrest and visibility
Inside is a detachable, washable leather-look liner, which cushions the contents and can be taken out for cleaning. An ergonomic backrest gives a passenger support. Night-reflective stickers are included to improve visibility in low light.
Lock
The case has a security lock supplied with two keys. A lock keeps a lid closed while the bike is parked and deters casual theft, but valuables are still better carried with you. Keep the spare key away from the case.
Mounting
The bottom has a multi-hole mounting base, which VEVOR says is designed to fit various motorcycle rear racks. You match the holes to the rack's mounting points and fasten the case. Hole spacing differs between racks, so check that the pattern lines up with yours, and use all the fasteners as the instructions describe.
Check the motorcycle's rear rack weight limit in the owner's manual. Weight carried high and behind the rear axle changes handling, so pack heavier items low and keep the total within limits.
Who it suits
The case suits commuters and weekend riders who want secure storage for a helmet and everyday items, and riders who prefer a rigid case to a soft bag. Tourers carrying luggage for several days will likely want more capacity.
What to check before you buy
- Rack compatibility: confirm the rack's size and mounting-hole spacing.
- Helmet fit: check your helmet fits inside, since shapes and sizes vary.
- Load limits: stay within the rack and motorcycle limits.
- Clearance: make sure the case doesn't block the passenger seat, lights or indicators.
- Weather: IP55 suits light rain, so pack sensitive items accordingly.
- Care: check the manual for cleaning the liner and caring for the lock.
