The VEVOR ZS3SJ is a 12V electric scissor jack that lifts a car without any hand cranking. It is aimed at roadside tyre changes and home garage jobs, and it comes in a carrying case with its cables and accessories. VEVOR rates it for 3 tons (6,600 lb).

How an electric scissor jack works

A scissor jack raises a load as a motor pulls two arms of a diamond-shaped frame together. In a hand-cranked jack you turn the screw yourself. Here an electric motor does it, operated from a remote control, so you can stand clear of the wheel while it lifts. VEVOR says it takes about two minutes to reach its maximum height of 16.5 inches.

Capacity and lifting range

The rated capacity is 3.0 tons, or 6,600 lb. This is the weight the jack itself is designed to lift, not the full weight of a vehicle, because a jack only lifts part of a car at a time. Check your vehicle's manual for its weight and jacking points. VEVOR says it suits sedans, SUVs, vans and other vehicles within its capacity.

Two saddle heads are included, and the range depends on which you use:

  • Short lifting head: 5.1 to 14.6 inches (130 to 370 mm).
  • Long lifting head: 6.7 to 16.5 inches (170 to 420 mm).

The minimum height must be low enough to slide under your vehicle, which matters for cars with low clearance.

Power and charging

The jack runs from a 12V cigarette lighter socket or directly from a car battery with the supplied clip. An 11.5 ft (3.5 m) power cord lets you place it at either the front or rear wheel. Three spare fuses are included, and VEVOR says they are TUV and UL certified.

Safety features

VEVOR says the jack stops lifting automatically at maximum height, and that the steel structure is heavy-duty. A built-in LED light helps in the dark, and the jack is listed as waterproof for use in rain. The listing says it must be used on flat surfaces and placed parallel to the car. As standard advice, a jack is for lifting only. Do not get under a vehicle supported by a jack alone; use appropriately rated jack stands and follow the manual.

What is in the case

The toolbox-style case holds the jack, two saddles, three spare fuses, gloves, a battery clip and a cigarette lighter power cable. A luminous red triangle on the outside of the box can serve as a warning sign at the roadside. The jack measures about 17.0 x 9.8 x 5.0 inches and weighs 13.9 lb (6.3 kg).

Who it suits

It suits drivers who want a compact, powered jack for the boot (trunk), people who find a manual jack difficult to wind, and home mechanics who change wheels at home. It is not designed for work under a vehicle.

What to check before you buy

  • Vehicle weight and jacking points: confirm them in your owner's manual.
  • Clearance: compare the minimum lifting height with your car's ground clearance.
  • Power source: make sure your vehicle has a working 12V socket or accessible battery.
  • Surface: use it only on flat, firm ground.
  • Storage: confirm the case fits in your boot.
  • Lug nuts: this kit has no wrench, so check whether you need one.
