The Rhinowalk motorcycle tank bag (model MJX2011-001) is a small, expandable bag that sits on the fuel tank, within reach while you ride. It mounts on a ring-style base with a magnetic quick release, so it comes off in seconds at a stop. Here is what its features mean and what to confirm about fit before ordering one.
How the quick-release mount works
Ring-mount tank bags don't use straps or tank magnets. Instead, an adapter ring is fitted to the bolts around the fuel filler cap, and the bag clicks onto that ring. The Rhinowalk uses a rail-style base that wraps around the adapter ring. Magnets help line the bag up as you set it down, and it secures itself onto the base. To take it off, you lift the release tab once the lock is open.
An important detail from Rhinowalk's own images: the adapter ring is sold separately. Adapter rings are specific to the motorcycle model, so the bag only works once you have the right ring for your bike.
The lock
A key-operated pin-tumbler lock holds the bag to the base, and two keys come in the box. That makes it harder for someone to lift the bag off the bike when you step away, though, as with any bag, it's sensible to take valuables with you. Because the bag releases in seconds, that is easy to do.
Fore and aft adjustment
The bag slides forward or back by up to 1.9 inches (48 mm) at the press of a button, without taking it off. This matters on bikes where the handlebars come close to the tank at full lock. Rhinowalk's instructions say to check that the bag doesn't block handlebar movement and to adjust it if needed.
Rhinowalk also notes that the adapter base is designed for motorcycles with their original handlebars. Its images give a minimum gap between the handlebar base and the fuel tank cap of about 100 mm for the composite base and 90 mm for the horseshoe base, so measure yours first.
Space inside
The bag expands from 5 to 6.5 litres. Rhinowalk's images list its size as about 28 x 21 x 19 cm (11 x 8.3 x 7.5 inches). That is enough for a phone, keys, gloves, a small tool kit, snacks and a few documents, but not for a jacket or a laptop.
Inside are several compartments, separate mesh pockets and a plush-lined bottom that cushions items against the hard base. A hook-and-loop patch area on the outside takes patches, and a dedicated hole lets a charging cable run from the bike to a phone or power bank inside.
Materials and weather
The base and adapter structure are PA66 nylon reinforced with 15% glass fibre and 10% carbon fibre. The bag body uses Hypalon and 1680D polyester Oxford fabric, both common in motorcycle luggage because they resist abrasion and tearing. A rain cover comes in the box, rated by Rhinowalk at over 6,000 mm of water resistance. In steady rain, use the cover rather than relying on the fabric alone. The box also includes a shoulder strap, so the bag can be carried off the bike.
Who it suits
It suits commuters and touring riders who want quick access to small items on the tank and like to take the bag with them at stops. It works best for riders whose bikes already use, or can take, a ring-style tank mount.
What to check before you buy
- Adapter ring: find the correct ring for your motorcycle's make, model and year; it isn't included.
- Handlebar clearance: measure the gap between the handlebar base and the fuel cap, and check full steering lock.
- Handlebars: aftermarket handlebars may change the fit.
- Capacity: 6.5 litres holds small essentials, not bulky gear.
- Charging: plan how you'll run a cable to the bag if you charge a phone while riding.
