The Auxbeam BA80 is an eight-switch touch panel for controlling add-on lighting and accessories in a vehicle or boat. Instead of fitting a separate switch, relay and run of wiring for every light bar or work light, you connect them all to one panel and switch them from one place. Auxbeam designs it for trucks, ATVs and UTVs, SUVs, caravans and marine use.
What "8 gang" and a built-in relay mean
A "gang" is one switch position, so this panel gives you eight independently switched outputs. Auxbeam says the panel uses a built-in solid state relay rather than an external relay box. A relay lets a small control signal switch a larger current, and a solid state version does this electronically with no moving contacts. In general that means silent switching and fewer parts to mount and wire.
Voltage, current and power limits
The listing gives an operating voltage of DC 12-24V and a maximum current of 60A. Each output is rated at 20A on 12V or 10A on 24V. Auxbeam quotes a maximum power of 600W at 12V and 1,200W at 24V. Power is voltage times current, so the same circuit can carry more watts at 24V. Add up the load on each switch before you connect anything, and keep the total within the panel's limits.
Automatic dimming backlight
The panel adjusts its backlight to the brightness around it: brighter in daylight, dimmer at night. A fixed bright backlight can be distracting on a dark trail or the water, and a dim one is hard to read in sun, so automatic adjustment is a practical touch. This version has blue backlighting.
Protection features
Auxbeam lists over-voltage, reverse polarity, over-current and thermal protection, and includes spare fuses. These features are meant to guard the panel and the connected accessories against common wiring faults. They don't replace correct wire sizing and fusing in your installation.
Installation and weather resistance
The panel comes with plug-and-play wiring harnesses and two types of mounting bracket, so it can sit on a dash, a console or under a roof lining without cutting a large hole. It carries an IP65 protection class, which generally means it is dust-tight and protected against water jets. Auxbeam gives an operating temperature range of -40°F to 221°F. Sixty self-adhesive labels let you mark each switch.
The unit measures about 11.8 x 7.9 x 3.1 inches and weighs 4.6 lb, and Auxbeam covers it with a two-year manufacturer warranty.
Who it suits
It suits owners who have added several accessories, such as light bars, pod lights, a winch or a compressor, and want one tidy control point. Boat and off-road users often want a sealed panel like this.
What to check before you buy
- Total load: add up the current and wattage of each accessory and check it against the per-output and total limits.
- Voltage: confirm that your system is 12V or 24V DC.
- Mounting space: measure the spot you have in mind and check the bracket options.
- Wire and fuse sizing: follow the manual, and use the right gauge for each accessory.
- Compatibility: check that the harness plugs and connectors suit your accessories.
- Local rules: vehicle wiring and lighting are regulated in many places, so follow local codes and the manual.
The short version
- An eight-switch touch panel with a built-in solid state relay for 12-24V DC systems.
- Rated 20A per output at 12V or 10A at 24V, up to 60A in total.
- Backlight that dims and brightens automatically with ambient light.
- Over-voltage, reverse polarity, over-current and thermal protection, with spare fuses.
- IP65 rated, with plug-and-play harnesses, two bracket types and a two-year warranty.
