The Auxbeam 5x7 LED headlights are a pair of rectangular LED units that replace 5x7 and 7x6-inch headlights of the H6054 type. Each one combines low and high beams with a white daytime running light and an amber turn signal. Here is what the specs mean, which vehicles Auxbeam lists, and what to check before fitting them.

Which vehicles they fit

"5x7" and "7x6" are two common names for the same rectangular headlight size, used on many vehicles from the 1980s and 1990s. Auxbeam says these lights are compatible with vehicles that have 5x7 or 7x6-inch rectangular headlights, and with stock H6054, H5054, H6054LL, 69822, 6052 and 6053 headlights.

The listing names the Jeep Cherokee XJ (1984-2001), Jeep Wrangler YJ (1987-1995) and Jeep Comanche MJ (1986-1992), the Chevrolet Express 1500, 2500 and 3500, the GMC Savana, and Ford models with 5x7 sealed-beam headlights. Auxbeam asks buyers to check the size of the stock headlight first.

Four lighting functions in one unit

Each headlight has a low beam, a high beam, a white daytime running light (DRL) and an amber turn signal. The DRL and turn signal are lit by the light strips around the lens, and they connect through the included extension wires. On many older vehicles the turn signals sit in separate lamps, so adding an amber signal inside the headlight is an extra rather than a replacement.

Brightness and colour temperature

Auxbeam gives 12,000 lumens per pair on high beam and 8,000 lumens per pair on low beam. Lumens measure the total light a source puts out; how much of it lands usefully on the road depends on the beam pattern and on correct aim, so lumen figures are only a rough guide.

The colour temperature is 6000-6500K, a cool white. Halogen bulbs are typically around 3000-3500K, which looks warmer and more yellow, so the change in colour is noticeable after a conversion.

Build and weather sealing

The housing is aluminium alloy with built-in breathing holes for cooling. LEDs run cooler than halogen filaments at the front, but their chips and drivers still produce heat at the back, so a metal housing that sheds heat matters for long life. The lens is polycarbonate, and Auxbeam says the LED chips are automotive grade.

The lights are IP67 waterproof. Under the IP code, that means dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion in water, typically tested at up to 1 metre for 30 minutes. Auxbeam lists them as DOT approved, a marking that refers to US federal lighting requirements; rules in other countries differ. The listing gives the weight as 6.83 lb.

Wiring and what's in the box

The lights plug into the stock harness. Built-in EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) and anti-flicker circuits are meant to limit radio interference and flickering, two common complaints with LED conversions.

The box contains two headlights, two DRL extension wires, two turn signal extension wires, two H4-to-H13 adapters, four wire splitters, two anti-slip gloves and a user manual. Auxbeam lists a 2-year warranty.

Who they suit

They suit owners of older vehicles with 5x7 or 7x6 sealed-beam headlights, such as the Cherokee XJ, Wrangler YJ and Comanche MJ, who want LED low and high beams with a DRL and turn signal built into the same unit.

What to check before you buy

  • Headlight size: confirm your stock headlights are 5x7 or 7x6 inches, or one of the listed part numbers.
  • Plug type: check which connector your harness uses and whether you'll need the adapters.
  • Extra wiring: plan where the DRL and turn signal wires connect, following the manual.
  • Aim: have the headlights aimed after fitting, so the low beam sits where it should.
  • Local rules: rules on aftermarket headlights, DRLs and turn signals vary, so check yours before driving.

The short version

  • A pair of 5x7 and 7x6-inch LED headlights, compatible with H6054-type units.
  • Low and high beams plus a white DRL and amber turn signal in each light.
  • 12,000 lumens high and 8,000 lumens low per pair (Auxbeam's figures), at 6000-6500K.
  • Aluminium housing with breathing holes, polycarbonate lens, IP67, listed as DOT approved.
  • Plugs into the stock harness, with adapters and extension wires; 2-year warranty.
