The Auxbeam 4-inch LED pods are small, round auxiliary lights sold as a set of four, with both white and amber output. They are aimed at trucks, off-road vehicles and similar rigs that need extra light on trails, in fog or around a work site. Here is what the listed features mean and what to confirm before fitting them.

What the combo beam does

Each pod combines two beam types. Auxbeam describes a spot beam that is focused to help with long-distance vision, and a yellow flood beam that spreads light over a wider area to widen your field of view in fog and similar conditions. In general, a spot beam throws light a long way down the track in a narrow band, while a flood beam lights up the sides and the ground closer to the vehicle. Combining them in one pod means you get reach and width without fitting two separate lights.

The set is listed as 240W overall, which is the brand's figure for the four-pod kit.

Six light modes

The pods can switch between six colour and flash settings, according to Auxbeam: white, amber, white and amber together, white strobe, amber strobe, and white and amber strobe. You change mode with the included mode controller.

Amber light is often chosen for fog, dust and snow because it tends to scatter less than white light in those conditions. Strobe and flashing modes are a different matter: rules on where, and whether, they can be used on public roads vary widely by region. Check your local regulations, and treat strobe settings as something for private land or work use unless you know the rules allow otherwise.

Memory function

The pods remember the mode you used last and return to it the next time they are switched on, so you do not have to cycle through the settings every time. Auxbeam suggests the lights can serve as warning lights, fog lights, driving lights or work lights.

Housing and weather resistance

The listing gives an IP68 protection class and describes a die-cast aluminium housing with sealing designed for harsh weather. In the IP system, the 6 means dust-tight and the 8 means the housing is intended to withstand continuous immersion, to a depth the manufacturer specifies. Auxbeam also says the lights have built-in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) design, which is meant to reduce radio interference and flickering. That matters if the vehicle has a radio or sensitive electronics nearby.

What is in the box

The kit includes four 4-inch LED pods, one 4-lead wiring harness and one installation hardware kit. Auxbeam says this covers what you need to install them without buying a separate harness or plug. The listed shipping dimensions are 11.8 x 4.1 x 12.8 inches (about 30 x 10 x 33 cm), with a weight of 4.9 lb (about 2.2 kg).

Who it suits

Four small pods suit people who want to place lights in several spots, such as the bumper, the A-pillars or a roof rack. They also suit anyone who wants one colour for clear conditions and another for fog or dust, switched from a single controller.

What to check before you buy

  • Mounting spots: measure where each pod will go, and confirm there is room for the housing and a bracket.
  • Electrical load: check your vehicle's wiring, fuse and relay capacity against the kit's total draw, and follow the manual.
  • Local rules: confirm which colours and flashing modes are allowed on the roads where you will drive.
  • Switching: decide where the controller will sit and how you will switch the lights on and off.
  • Fit of the harness: make sure the 4-lead harness suits your layout, with enough cable length for each location.

The short version

  • A set of four 4-inch LED pods with a white spot beam and an amber flood beam.
  • Six modes: white, amber, mixed, and three strobe options, with memory of the last mode used.
  • IP68-rated die-cast aluminium housing with EMC design, according to Auxbeam.
  • Includes a 4-lead wiring harness and installation hardware.
  • Check wiring capacity and local lighting rules before installing.
