The Autel MaxiCharger AC Home is a wall-mounted Level 2 charger for electric vehicles. It is hardwired to a 240V supply and rated at up to 50 amps, which Autel puts at 12kW. It is meant for a garage wall or an outdoor spot at home, where it replaces slow charging from a standard household outlet.
What Level 2 and 12kW mean in practice
Level 1 charging uses an ordinary 120V outlet and adds only a few kilometres of range per hour. Level 2 uses a 240V circuit, like an electric dryer or range, and is typically several times faster. Autel rates this unit at 12kW and says it adds about 37 miles (roughly 60 km) of range for each hour of charging.
That figure is a maximum. Actual speed depends on your vehicle, because the car's onboard charger sets its own limit. Many vehicles accept far less than 12kW from an AC charger, so the car, not the wall unit, is often the bottleneck.
Hardwired installation and the circuit behind it
This model is hardwired rather than plugged into an outlet. At 50A, EV chargers are normally installed on a dedicated circuit sized with a safety margin, usually by a licensed electrician. Your panel capacity, wire gauge and breaker all matter. Follow local electrical codes, permit rules and the installation manual.
Weather protection and the cable
Autel lists the housing as NEMA Type 4 and NEMA 4X rated. In general terms, that means the enclosure is built to be dust-tight and to resist rain, splashing and hose-directed water, with 4X adding corrosion resistance. It can be mounted indoors or outside.
The cable is 25 feet (about 7.6 m) long. Autel says it stays flexible in cold weather, down to -40°C. A long cable helps when the charge port is on a different side of the car, or when you park nose-in one day and reverse in the next.
App control and connectivity
The Autel Charge app handles scheduling and charge timing. Autel says this lets you charge during off-peak electricity hours, and you can set charging to start while you are away. The charger has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Ethernet connections, which Autel says support over-the-air firmware updates.
Protection features and certification
Autel lists CSA certification, fire-resistant materials, and over-current, over-voltage and over-temperature protection. Rebate and incentive programmes have their own eligibility rules and change often, so confirm the requirements with the programme itself.
Who it suits
It suits households with an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle and a parking spot near the electrical panel, particularly where the car is parked overnight and a charging schedule is useful.
What to check before you buy
- Your vehicle's connector: confirm that the charger's plug type matches your car, or that an adapter is available.
- Your electrical panel: have an electrician confirm there is spare capacity for a 50A circuit, or whether the unit can be set to a lower current.
- Cable reach: measure from the mounting point to the charge port, including how you park.
- Wi-Fi coverage: check the signal at the install location if you want app features and updates.
- Permits: ask your local authority whether an electrical permit or inspection is required.
The short version
- A hardwired Level 2 home EV charger rated up to 50A, 240V and 12kW.
- 25-foot cable, NEMA 4 and 4X housing for indoor or outdoor mounting.
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Ethernet, with scheduling in the Autel Charge app.
- Over-current, over-voltage and over-temperature protection; CSA certified.
- Needs a suitable dedicated circuit and installation in line with local codes.
