The VEVOR ZJQ1100-B is a 1 HP submersible utility pump for moving water off a basement floor, out of a pool cover, or from a pond or low spot in the yard. It sits in the water, pushes it through a hose, and carries a handle for moving it between jobs.

Flow and head: what the numbers mean

VEVOR rates the pump at up to 4000 gallons per hour (15,142 L/h) and a head of 31 feet. These two figures describe different things:

  • Flow (GPH) is how much water it moves, and it is highest when the water has little to climb.
  • Head is how high the pump can lift water. At 31 feet (about 9.5 m) it is the maximum, and in that case the flow falls close to zero.

Real jobs fall between the two. The higher the discharge hose rises, and the longer and narrower the hose, the lower the flow is in practice. Treat 4000 GPH as a best case on a short, level run, not a promise for every setup.

Motor and housing

VEVOR describes a copper-wire motor with built-in overload protection, which is designed to shut the motor off if it overheats. The housing carries an IPX8 code, which covers continuous immersion, and VEVOR says it is meant for long-term underwater use. It has a detachable bottom filter, which keeps larger debris out of the intake. A utility pump of this type is meant for clear or slightly dirty water, and not for sand, mud or solids, so check the manual.

Fittings

Several adapters come with the pump: G1-1/2" elbow outer thread, G1-1/2" straight inner thread, NPT 1", GHT 3/4" and a 35 mm pipe adapter. Between them you can usually connect a standard garden hose or a rigid pipe. Check that your hose or pipe matches one of those thread types before you start.

Size and handling

The pump is about 14.6 x 8.3 x 7.3 inches (37 x 21 x 18.5 cm) and weighs 11 lb (5 kg). A carrying handle makes it easy to lower into a pit or lift out. The 10-foot (3 m) power cord sets how far you can be from the outlet, so plan the cord route to keep the plug out of the water and away from wet floors.

Where it fits

  • Draining a basement or crawl space after water gets in.
  • Emptying a swimming pool, pool cover or hot tub.
  • Moving water out of ponds, garden channels and low spots.

For electrical connections near water, use a properly grounded outlet with ground-fault protection and follow local codes and the manual. Don't carry or lift the pump by its cord.

What to check before you buy

  • The job: work out how high the water has to rise and how long the hose run is, to compare against the head and flow figures.
  • Water quality: check that the filter and pump are suitable for the debris in the water.
  • Fittings: match your hose or pipe to one of the supplied adapters.
  • Power: confirm the outlet supply, and whether a 10 ft cord will reach safely.
  • Water level: a pump like this can't normally empty water down to a thin film, so check the minimum depth in the manual.
  • Care: rinse the filter after use and keep the pump dry between jobs.
