The VEVOR ZEP-1550 is a cordless press tool for joining copper pipe. Instead of soldering each joint with a torch, a plumber slips a press fitting onto the pipe and the tool squeezes it with a jaw to form the seal. It comes with six jaws, two batteries and a charger in a carrying case.

How pressing works

A press fitting contains a sealing ring. When the jaws close around it, the fitting is deformed to grip the pipe and compress the ring, creating a joint without flame. In general, pressing is quicker than soldering and removes the heat risk from working near wood framing or in tight spaces. Both the tool and the fittings have to be matched, so check that the fittings you use are made for this jaw profile.

Force and jaws

VEVOR says the tool delivers 32 kN of force and that it is compatible with 32 kN standard press jaws. Six VUS jaws are included for copper tube at 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2 and 2 inches. According to VEVOR, each jaw gives a precise, secure fit for leak-free connections. For other pipe materials, the listing says you need to buy the matching jaws separately.

Batteries and runtime

The kit includes two 18V 4.0Ah lithium batteries and a fast charger. VEVOR says it can make up to 350 crimps per charge, so one battery can charge while the other works. Actual numbers depend on the jaw size, since large fittings take more energy than small ones.

Head and body

A 180° rotating head and slim body are meant for confined spaces, such as between joists, behind a boiler or along a wall. The head turns so the jaw can reach awkward fittings without the whole tool being twisted. A carrying case keeps the tool, jaws, batteries and charger together. The listed package weight is 54 lb (about 24.5 kg), which includes the case and all accessories, so the tool alone is lighter.

Who it suits

It suits plumbers and maintenance teams who work on residential or light industrial copper piping and want to avoid open-flame work. VEVOR lists pipe installation and repair in residential plumbing and industrial piping as uses. Occasional DIY users should note that press fittings and jaws are specific to the system.

What to check before you buy

  • Pipe type and size: confirm your copper tubing falls in the 1/2 to 2 inch range.
  • Fitting compatibility: check that your press fittings suit VUS-profile jaws.
  • Other materials: jaws for other pipe types are sold separately.
  • Local codes: some areas and insurers set rules on pressed joints, so confirm what's allowed.
  • Training and manual: follow the instructions on preparing the pipe and checking that the fitting is seated.
  • Battery needs: confirm the batteries are suitable for your charging setup.
