The VEVOR YQ-70A is a hand-held hydraulic crimping tool for pressing copper and aluminium terminals and battery lugs onto cable. It comes as a kit with nine pairs of dies, a cutting tool, gloves, sample terminals and heat shrink sleeves, all in a blow-moulded case. The listing gives the model as YQ-70A with the LK-60A cutter.
What hydraulic crimping does
A crimp joins a terminal to a cable by squeezing the metal barrel around the strands. Hand crimpers need strong grip force for larger cable, while a hydraulic crimper uses an oil pump to multiply that force. VEVOR rates this tool with a 6-ton high-pressure oil pump and an 11mm (0.43-inch) stroke. This is the sort of tool used for heavy battery cables, solar and inverter wiring and similar large-gauge work.
Sizes and dies
The crimping range runs from AWG 12 to 2/0. The nine die pairs cover 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1/0 and 2/0 AWG plus a 1/8-inch size, which VEVOR says suits steel wire ropes as well. The key rule with any crimper is to match the die to the terminal and cable size, so check the die markings against your lugs before pressing.
Head and handle
The head rotates freely through 180 degrees, which helps in cramped places such as battery boxes or inside an enclosure. VEVOR describes the handle as ergonomic and non-slip. Operation is straightforward: choose the matching die, fit it, close the hydraulic switch, and squeeze.
Materials
The jaws are made of high-strength steel and heat-treated for hardness, according to VEVOR. The surface is electroplated for abrasion and corrosion resistance. Heat treatment is common on crimping dies because they take repeated high pressure.
What's in the kit
- One hydraulic crimping tool with nine die pairs
- One cable cutting tool
- One pair of gloves
- Five copper ring terminals
- Eight heat shrink sleeves
- One blow-moulded storage case
Heat shrink sleeves are slipped over the finished crimp and shrunk with heat, which seals the joint against moisture and adds strain relief. A heat source is not included in the kit.
Who it suits
It suits people who regularly make up large-gauge cables: vehicle and boat battery leads, RV and off-grid electrical systems, and workshop projects. It is more tool than is needed for occasional small-wire jobs, where a standard ratcheting crimper is usually enough.
What to check before you buy
- Terminal type and size: confirm that your lugs are in the AWG 12 to 2/0 range and are the sort of copper or aluminium terminal the dies suit.
- Die match: use the correct die for each size, and follow the manual for how many presses a lug needs.
- Electrical safety: work on de-energised circuits, disconnect batteries first, and follow local electrical codes.
- Heat source: you will need a heat gun to shrink the sleeves.
- Upkeep: hydraulic tools should be stored clean and checked for oil leaks, as the manual describes.
- Cutter capacity: check the cutting tool's stated capacity against the cable you plan to cut.
The short version
- A hydraulic crimper rated at 6 tons with an 11mm stroke.
- Covers AWG 12 to 2/0 with nine die pairs; head rotates 180 degrees.
- Heat-treated, electroplated steel jaws and a non-slip handle.
- Includes a cutter, gloves, five ring terminals, eight heat shrink sleeves and a case.
- Meant for battery lugs and heavy cable, not fine wiring.
