The VEVOR hydraulic tube expander is a hand tool for HVAC and refrigeration work. It widens the end of a soft metal tube so another tube of the same size can slide into it, which allows a joint to be brazed without a separate coupling. The kit comes with seven expansion heads, a deburring tool, a pipe cutter and a storage case.
What a tube expander does
When two lengths of tubing have to be joined, one option is a fitting with a joint at each end. Another is to expand ("swage") the end of one tube so the next one fits inside it. That makes one joint instead of two, which means fewer places for a leak. This is a common method for copper line sets in air conditioning and refrigeration.
The hydraulic mechanism here uses a handle to push the expansion head into the tube. VEVOR says it makes the job faster and less tiring than driving a manual swaging punch. A release trigger lets go of the tube after expanding.
Sizes in the kit
The seven stainless steel heads match common tube outside diameters:
- 3/8"
- 1/2"
- 5/8"
- 3/4"
- 7/8"
- 1"
- 1-1/8"
VEVOR says the tool works on soft copper, aluminum, brass, titanium and soft steel tubing. In general, annealed (soft) copper is what these tools are designed for, while hard-drawn tube may crack when expanded. Always match the head to the tube's outside diameter.
Deburring tool and pipe cutter
A neat joint starts with a clean cut. The kit includes an aluminum-alloy pipe cutter that VEVOR describes as wear-resistant and rust-resistant, and a deburring tool that smooths the inside and outside edges of a cut. Removing burrs matters because rough edges can score the expansion, catch debris, and make brazing harder.
Handling and size
The handle is ergonomic with a comfortable grip, and VEVOR says the expansion maintains the tube's structural integrity and does not damage the metal. The tool measures 17.7 x 2.8 x 9.5 inches (about 45 x 7 x 24 cm) and weighs 8 lb (3.6 kg), so it is easy to carry in the supplied case.
Who it suits
It suits HVAC technicians, refrigeration installers, and keen DIYers who are trained and licensed in the work, where tube swaging is a regular step. Work on refrigerant systems is regulated in many places, so follow local rules and have the right qualifications.
What to check before you buy
- Tube type and wall thickness: confirm that your tubing is soft enough and in the 3/8" to 1-1/8" range.
- Outside diameter, not nominal size: measure the tube before choosing a head.
- Joint method: check the guidelines of your trade for how long the socket must be to braze a joint.
- Lubrication and cleaning: see the manual for care of the heads and hydraulic parts.
- Case contents: check the kit against the list of parts when it arrives.
The short version

- Seven stainless steel heads, a deburring tool, an aluminum-alloy pipe cutter and a storage case.
- Release trigger and ergonomic handle.
- 8 lb (3.6 kg); suited to HVAC and refrigeration tube joints.
