The VEVOR D1000 is a 550W electric drain cleaning machine, sometimes called a sewer snake or drain auger. It feeds a long steel cable into a clogged pipe and turns it to break the blockage, which suits plumbers, property managers and homeowners facing stubborn clogs that a hand-cranked tool can't clear.

Automatic feed and foot control

The machine has an auto-feed system that powers the cable in and out of the pipe, so you don't have to push it by hand. VEVOR adds forward and reverse control and an air-activated foot switch, which leaves your hands free to guide the cable. Reverse is useful for backing the cable out or freeing it if it binds.

The cable

The cable is 100 ft long and 1/2 inch thick, with a steel core. VEVOR says it resists breakage, twisting and corrosion, and that it can travel through curved pipes between 2 and 4 inches in diameter. In general, a longer cable reaches clogs farther along a drain line, but the real reach depends on the bends in the pipework.

Eight interchangeable cutters

Different blockages need different heads. The D1000 comes with 8 quick-change cutters, and VEVOR lists them for clearing pipes, floor drains, sinks and toilets. Tool hooks on the machine give the cutters a place to hang. Typically, smaller or narrower heads are used to start a hole through a clog, and larger ones to clean the pipe wall afterwards.

Moving and storing it

This is a heavy machine at 112.3 lb, measuring about 22.4 x 18.3 x 34.5 inches. VEVOR fits it with 8-inch wheels and a foldable handle so it can be rolled and then stored more compactly. The drum has an open-case design for easy cleaning and maintenance and lets you watch the cable length as it pays out.

Electrical protection

VEVOR includes a GFCI switch for safety. A GFCI is designed to cut power quickly if it detects a ground fault, which is useful around water. Follow the manual on using it, on power supply requirements and on protective equipment.

Who it suits

It suits plumbing professionals, landlords, restaurants and homeowners with long or repeated drain blockages in 2-4 inch lines.

What to check before you buy

  • Pipe size: confirm that your drain lines are between 2 and 4 inches.
  • Weight: at 112 lb, check how you will move it up steps or into a vehicle.
  • Power: check the supply and a suitable outlet where you'll work.
  • Cleaning and upkeep: plan for rinsing the cable, drum and cutters after use, as the manual describes.
  • Protection: wear the protective gear the manual recommends, and call a plumber if the blockage is in a main sewer or a shared line.
