The VEVOR 6.3-gallon air compressor is a portable, oil-free compressor with a 1450W motor. It supplies compressed air for pneumatic tools and for jobs like tire inflation. Here is what the specs mean and which tasks suit them.

Tank size, CFM and PSI

Three figures describe a compressor. The tank holds 6.3 gallons (about 24 litres), which is a buffer of stored air. The maximum pressure is 116 PSI, and the air delivery is 3.35 CFM at 90 PSI. CFM, cubic feet per minute, shows how much air the pump supplies at a given pressure, and it is the number that decides which tools can run.

In general, tools that use air in short bursts, such as brad and finish nailers, tire inflators and blow guns, work well with a small tank. Tools that use air continuously, such as sanders, grinders and many spray guns, need a higher CFM than a compact unit supplies, and may run the tank down. Check the air requirement in each tool's manual against 3.35 CFM at 90 PSI. VEVOR lists nail guns, impact wrenches, spray guns and pneumatic screwdrivers as suitable.

What oil-free means

Oil-free pumps have no oil sump to fill, check or change, which reduces upkeep and keeps oil out of the air stream. The trade-off is that oil-free pumps are often louder than oil-lubricated ones. VEVOR lists the motor at 1450W (about 2 HP) running up to 3,500 rpm, with double tube and double cylinder intake feeding the pump together.

Noise

VEVOR calls it a quiet compressor at 70 dB, with two silencers. Each is built from a muffler cover, a rubber pipe and a filter cotton element, which also keeps fine dust out. Decibel figures depend on how and where they're measured, and hearing protection is a good habit in a small space whatever the number.

Build and protection

The tank is made from Q235B structural steel with a three-layer coating (rust and wear resistance, plastic powder adhesion). VEVOR says it has seamless welding and a 3.5 MPa maximum bearing pressure. The intake pipe is silicone with stainless steel braid, rated to 392°F.

Two large cooling fans and automatic overheating protection are listed. VEVOR also says the compressor shuts off automatically on high current or high tank pressure, with a pressure relief feature. As with any compressor, drain the tank regularly and follow the manual on maintenance and pressure.

Size and weight

The unit measures about 25.2 x 13.0 x 28.7 inches (64 x 33 x 73 cm) and weighs about 43 lb (19.5 kg). It can be moved by hand, but it is not light, so check where it will live and whether you'll need to lift it into a vehicle.

Who it suits

It suits home garages, hobby woodworkers using nailers, people who inflate tires and sports gear, and light auto repair. It is less suited to a workshop where several tools run all day, or to long painting jobs, where a larger tank and higher CFM are typical.

What to check before you buy

  • Tool air needs: compare each tool's CFM at 90 PSI to the compressor's 3.35 CFM.
  • Pressure: confirm the tools run at or below the maximum of 116 PSI.
  • Power: check the plug and circuit for 1450W, and whether an extension cord is suitable.
  • Fittings and hoses: the listing doesn't say what hose and connectors are included, so confirm them.
  • Noise: consider where you will run it, and wear ear protection.
  • Upkeep: plan to drain the tank after use, as the manual describes.

The short version

  • A portable 6.3-gallon oil-free compressor with a 1450W (about 2 HP) motor.
  • 3.35 CFM at 90 PSI, with a 116 PSI maximum.
  • Rated at 70 dB, with two silencers.
  • Overheating protection plus automatic shut-off and pressure relief.
  • About 43 lb (19.5 kg), suited to nailers, tire inflation and light spraying.
